reading slumps are the worst

... Read moreReading slumps can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you find yourself halfway through a book like "Unlikely Story" by Ali Rosen and just can't seem to keep going. I've personally faced the same challenge this year, having only completed one book and just starting another. What helped me the most was creating a cozy, distraction-free reading environment—turning off my phone, setting a specific reading time each day, and allowing myself to get lost in the story without pressure. Another approach that worked well was switching between genres. If I was stuck on a heavy novel, picking up a lighter, more engaging book or even a graphic novel helped refresh my enthusiasm. Sometimes, joining a book club or online reading forums like #readingstruggles or #readingSLUMP can offer motivation and a sense of community, making reading feel less like a solitary task. Furthermore, setting small goals such as reading a chapter or 10 pages a day gave me a manageable target and a sense of achievement. I found that celebrating these small victories gradually lifted me out of the slump. Lastly, if a book doesn’t resonate, it’s okay to put it aside and try something else; forcing yourself can deepen the slump. Ultimately, beating a reading slump is about patience and finding what works uniquely for you—whether it’s changing reading habits, creating a better environment, or exploring new genres. Sharing tips and experiences with others going through the same can also be incredibly encouraging.
