Each sibling has incredibly distinct powers and personalities: there’s Luther (Number One), super strong but often lost; Diego (Number Two), a rebellious knife-wielder; Allison (Number Three), who can manipulate reality with her voice; Klaus (Number Four), who can communicate with the dead (and has some serious substance abuse issues); Five (Number Five), an old man trapped in a child's body with spatial jump abilities; Ben (Number Six), a ghostly figure with tentacles; and Vanya, later Viktor (Number Seven), whose true, immense power was suppressed for years. What I find most compelling about the show, beyond the fantastic plot twists and mind-bending time jumps, is the focus on family. Despite their extraordinary powers and world-saving missions, they are fundamentally a dysfunctional family trying to heal old wounds. This makes their journey incredibly relatable, even amidst all the superpowers and end-of-the-world scenarios. We're talking about complex characters, each dealing with their own trauma stemming from their unconventional upbringing under Reginald. Speaking of characters, how can we not talk about Number Five? He's a fan favorite for a reason, and you'll find entire communities, like the dedicated 'Aidan's Army,' rallying around Aidan Gallagher's incredible portrayal. His performance as the cynical, time-traveling assassin stuck in a 13-year-old's body is just phenomenal. He carries so much of the plot and delivers some of the show's best lines and action sequences. If you're looking for compelling characters, Five is definitely one to watch! So, if you're looking for a series that combines superhero action with dark humor, emotional depth, and a killer soundtrack, The Umbrella Academy is it.
