Two love crows & a bin chicken 🖤

Observing urban wildlife like crows and ibises has always offered me a fascinating glimpse into the adaptability and charm of city-dwelling birds. Crows, with their glossy black feathers and intelligent eyes, often capture my attention, especially when they seem to share intimate moments that remind me of dramatic scenes from a gothic romance movie. Their bond feels deeply emotional, almost as if they’re whispering secrets or playfully engaging in a tender courtship. On the other hand, the ibis—often nicknamed the 'bin chicken'—adds a delightful contrast. Frequently misunderstood and sometimes dismissed because of their scavenging habits, these birds are actually incredibly resilient survivors in urban ecosystems. I find their awkward, quirky behaviors endearing, as they navigate the challenges of city life with an unbothered, almost royal presence. This juxtaposition of the exquisite, mysterious crows and the chaotic yet charming ibis illustrates the diverse forms of beauty and survival in urban wildlife. My personal experience has taught me to appreciate all kinds of birds, especially those considered “off” or less glamorous by the general public. Whether it’s magpies, ravens, pigeons, or swamp birds, each species brings its unique personality and story to the urban tapestry. Developing an emotional connection to these creatures opens the door to a greater understanding and respect for nature, even in the busiest human habitats. Sharing these moments and feelings through my photography and writing helps me celebrate the hidden wonders around us. It reminds me—and hopefully others—that every city corner might host a small, gothic fairytale unfolding with every flutter of feathers and every whispered crow conversation.
