Hello friends, today is reviewing the YSEALI PFP (Young South Eeast Asian Leaders Initiative Professional Fellow Program), a grant sponsored by the United States Department of Foreign Affairs aimed at developing the leadership of young workers from South East Asia to experience and experience the work of the United States agencies working on a wide range of issues to jointly address regional and global challenges under 4 themes.

Fern is funded under the theme Society and Governance cycle 2. Travels for the September - October period for about 5 weeks. He has an internship at Hennepin County Juvenile Court in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Depending on our work experience, the essay we wrote when filling out the application and depends on the organizer to determine the suitability. The host will be a Voluteer who voluntarily accepts us for an internship in almost 4 weeks.

I have to say, it was the best experience of my life (not over) because it was a great fortune to go to Minneapolis.

1. The group of friends who go is Mun Joy is very fun. There are 8 lives that are friends of Filipino, Indonesian, Malaysian, Vietnamese. Most of them are friends who work in the civil service of their country (there are prosecutors, courts and other government agencies). But everyone is very funny. Mun Joy Jo. 4 weeks of life in Minneapolis is really fun. Every week we will organize activities, cook and cook. Each of them will show their culinary skills, play games, walk together, go shopping together, have a session reflection check in how each person is going to a party as a group. That is very close

2. Coordinator The Yseali Coordinator in Minneapolis is the best host. You plan the event for us almost every day. We are not lonely at all. There is a reception with all the hosts. Take a tour of important places. Meet important VIP people such as Supreme Court Tour, State Capital Tour. Get a free ticket to see the Hockey Game. The Wild Team of Minneapolis goes to the Lorde concert on the VIP lounge. (Born to be a little less than a concert. Most recently, you have to collect the M150 lid. Exchange the card. When you go to Vip like that, it's a story. Go to the zoo, go to Happy Hour (very often), go to the Soccer game, throw us a party at the host's house, and a lot more is really a lot. The first day you get to the host hotel, buy us a cooking pot, because you know that Asian people will definitely cook, please, from day 1.

(P.S. Each person who goes to a different city gets to sleep. Fern goes to a hotel, extended stay is very lucky, because there is breakfast, and then has a separate bed, no drama).

3. The Host who can't be mentioned is the Host who works as a Judge who works at Hennepin County Juvenile Court. He is very kind and does not take himself at all. At first, knowing that we work with Jude is a bit of a jerk, but when he meets the judge, he is cute and is

Very friendly. The important thing is that we learned a lot from the judges and at Hennepin County Juvenile Court. We have seen a different practice in Thailand due to different reasons and contexts. We have been observing in the courtroom at all, but most of them also have an online court. The fern is very impressed. Each judge will have their own zoom link with good security. This zoom court takes place seriously after Covid and is very practical. The court can let those involved enter the zoom room at the same time, not unlike coming to the court (and looks more effective + Save the public costs), with a clerk helping to arrange for people. If a lawyer wants to talk to a clerk, the clerk splits up to talk in breakout rooms.

Host judge also schedules us to see events such as

- Child detention center

- Correction facility adult drug treatment center privately owned with cokan with public health insurance

- Drug court, which is the most impressive thing, since the judge at the drug court turns himself in active work and reaches the therapist. If the therapy is complete, the program has a graduation and certificate. There is a support officer for the therapist to make sure that the therapist will receive a good support system.

4. Finally, we will need to complete the Reciprocal Exchange Project, a capstone leadership project summary that we crystallized from what we learned during the participation of the project. Fern was selected to receive a grant to implement the project as well.

In a nutshell, we learned a lot from this project and an impression that will never be forgotten.

There are two types of YSEALI program: Academic fellowship for 18 - 25 years old, with full scholarship to the United States to enhance international leadership skills at leading American colleges and Professional Fellows Program for applicants aged 25 - 35 years old with experience and passion that conforms to the theme and not only ready to learn from the project.
