just wrapped up a 4 days 3 nights tour at kuching, sarawak, and i must say, when you find a tour guide who’s as passionate and knowledgeable it really changes your perception of the country!

before i came to sarawak, i was like oh i’ve been to ipoh, perak, malacca, sabah, i’m sure it’s gonna be like oh just another trip to malaysia. i love visiting malaysia’s small towns or different parts but dang wish we could have went somewhere futher but after the trip, wow i’m so invested in visiting the every part of malaysia because i know besides the shopping, there’s really so much to discover in malaysia.
sarawak, the land of the hornbill. why? because the different tribes believe that the hornbill is a messenger from god. so if you notice, some of their houses actually have a hornbill sculpture on the top.
the history of sarawak was also so fascinating, something so unique and how passionate and invested they are with nature. did you know the black pepper is one of their important icons? black pepper is the one with the outer skin on, while white pepper is one without the outer skin. but sarawak managed to cultivate even more varieties such as the Semongok Emas!
imagine all these information being shared, and all the knowledge i’ve consumed throughout the trip 😍 such an incredible feeling to continuously be curious about the world around us. our tour guide was really the best, telling us so much more than the history and culture but also the way of life.
we went to hike a national park, and passed some tourist on a self guided hike - they asked us if we managed to see anything, we saw everything! (monkeys, wild boar, snakes, etc) whereas they said they’ve only seen trees hahaha. so having a tour guide really helped us spot these animals in the wild.
i really enjoyed hearing his personal stories and dedication he has for the country which just increased my love for visiting sarawak again. ☺️
i know sometimes tours often get a bad reputation for scamming or always bringing places for commissions - but when you meet a good tour guide, wow it’s really such a gem.
would definitely recommend again taking a tour, our tour guide was mr roslee, from cat city holiday sdn bhd tour & travel services. he was a funny man, who shared jokes and had such insightful conversation about nature, the culture and the history of sarawak. but most importantly the belief of sustainable tourism!!!! for example - seeing the animals in their own natural habitat without interference ❤️ no captivity, no harm, low impact on the environment.
