My dentures journey
First time wearing dentures just the top. After getting the cushion put in it worked next day had no suction. So I decided to remove the cushion and just do the adhesive so far they are staying in. Still have to try to eat something soft like a pb and j but work on my talking. But so far I am a little comfortable but I do know it’s gonna take time.
Wearing dentures for the first time can be quite an adjustment, especially when dealing with upper dentures. From my experience, getting used to the feel and function takes patience and some experimentation. Initially, I tried using a cushion inside the denture to create suction, which seemed helpful at first. However, by the next day, the suction wasn’t holding up, so I switched to using just denture adhesive. This change made a big difference in stability, and the dentures stayed in place better throughout the day. Eating soft foods like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is a practical way to begin practicing chewing with your new dentures. Avoiding hard or sticky foods until you’re more comfortable is essential to prevent discomfort or accidentally dislodging them. Speaking can also feel awkward initially, but with daily practice, your tongue and mouth muscles will adapt, making talking much easier. It's important to remember that comfort improves over time as the mouth adjusts to the prosthetics. Regularly cleaning your dentures and properly maintaining them encourages a better fit and prevents irritation. Don’t hesitate to follow up with your dentist if you experience persistent discomfort or issues with suction, as they might recommend adjustments or alternative products. Additionally, documenting your progress through 'before' and 'after' photos can be motivating and help track improvements. Overall, patience and consistency with denture care routines, combined with realistic expectations about the adjustment period, allow for a smoother transition to wearing dentures confidently and comfortably.
