I’m new to this... and I’m not convinced following every trend is the answer. BUT, I will admit, some of these trends are fun or easy.
At some point, though, it stops being your content.
Starting out on platforms like TikTok can feel like being in a whirlwind of trends, advice, and so-called expert tips. I’ve personally felt the pressure to keep up with what’s hot, constantly told to "use this trend," "post like this," or "do this right now." But it gets exhausting and somewhat discouraging when you realize you might just be copying others who are also copying someone else. In my experience, while following trends can sometimes be fun and an easy way to get noticed, it often leads to your content feeling less authentic. That’s why I realized it’s important to pause and ask myself, "When does this stop being my content?" Authenticity can set you apart in a sea of creators chasing the same algorithms. Creating content that truly reflects your personality, thoughts, and experiences isn’t always the fastest route to growth, but it feels more rewarding and sustainable. I find it helpful to use trends selectively—only when they resonate with me or I can add a unique twist. That way, I’m not just riding a wave; I’m shaping it. For new creators, this approach might feel like going against the grain since there’s a lot of "expert" advice that pushes rigid strategies. But remember, every creator’s journey is unique. Figuring things out your own way may take more time, but it builds your personal brand and keeps your content genuine. So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the endless "do this now" tactics, I encourage you to experiment and listen to your creative instincts. Mix trend content with your original ideas, share your personal stories, and develop what truly makes your voice stand out. After all, TikTok growth isn’t just about chasing views; it’s about creating a community that appreciates the real you.
