My favorite 80’s horror Films

The 80’s is one of my favorite decades for media, but especially horror. Great for its over the top dramatics, and practical effects. Here are some of my favorites as a self proclaimed annoying film girl! (In no particular order)#horror #80s #80shorror #horrorfilm #horror movies

1.Evil Dead -Ashley "Ash" Williams (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend and three pals hike into the woods to a cabin for a fun night away. There they find an old book, the Necronomicon, whose text reawakens the dead when it's read aloud. The friends inadvertently release a flood of evil and must fight for their lives or become one of the evil dead. Ash watches his friends become possessed, and must make a difficult decision before daybreak to save his own life in this, the first of Sam Raimi's trilogy.

2. Poltergeist Strange and creepy happenings beset an average California family, the Freelings -- Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), teenaged Dana (Dominique Dunne), eight-year-old Robbie (Oliver Robins), and five-year-old Carol Ann (Heather O'Rourke) -- when ghosts commune with them through the television set. Initially friendly and playful, the spirits turn unexpectedly menacing, and, when Carol Ann goes missing, Steve and Diane turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist for help.

3. Friday the 13th part 3 The third installment in the "Friday the 13th" series picks up on the day after the carnage with homicidal maniac Jason Voorhees (Richard Brooker) stealing some clothes and killing a local store owner. Meanwhile, Chris (Dana Kimmell) and her sometimes boyfriend, Rick (Paul Kratka), are hosting a group of teenage friends at Chris' lake house. Despite a run-in with a local biker gang, they enjoy an amiable weekend together -- that is, until Jason begins knocking off kids and bikers alike.

4. Videodrome As the president of a trashy TV channel, Max Renn (James Woods) is desperate for new programming to attract viewers. When he happens upon "Videodrome," a TV show dedicated to gratuitous torture and punishment, Max sees a potential hit and broadcasts the show on his channel. However, after his girlfriend (Deborah Harry) auditions for the show and never returns, Max investigates the truth behind Videodrome and discovers that the graphic violence may not be as fake as he thought.

5.Sleepaway camp After a horrible boating accident kills her family, shy, sullen Angela moves in with her eccentric Aunt Martha and protective cousin Ricky. One summer, Martha sends the kids to Camp Arawak. Soon after their arrival, bizarre, increasingly violent accidents claim the lives of various campers. Who is the twisted individual behind these murders? The disclosure of the murderer's identity is one of the most shocking climaxes in the history of American cinema.

6.from beyond Obsessive scientist Dr. Pretorius (Ted Sorel) successfully discovers a way to access a parallel universe of pleasure by tapping into the brain's pineal gland. When he is seemingly killed by forces from this other dimension, his assistant, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs), is accused of the murder. After psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) and detective Bubba Brownlee (Ken Foree) take the case, the trio risks a return to the other world in order to solve the mystery.

7. Night of the demons Ten teenagers party at an abandoned funeral parlor on Halloween night. When an evil force awakens, demonic spirits keep them from leaving and turn their gathering into a living Hell.

8. Its plot follows six people who seek shelter during a storm in the mansion of an elderly puppet maker and his wife, only to find that the various puppets and dolls in the home contain the imprisoned spirits of criminals. It was produced by Charles Band and Brian Yuzna through Band's Empire Pictures.

9. Witchboard When Jim (Todd Allen) and Linda (Tawny Kitaen) decide to throw a party, Linda's ex-boyfriend -- and Jim's ex-friend -- Brandon (Stephen Nichols) brings out a Ouija board to contact a pleasant, childish spirit named David with whom he communicates often. Apparently, the lines get crossed, because they instead reach across the supernatural divide to the decidedly less pleasant Malfeitor, who uses his connection to the world of the living to wreak havoc and terrify his new acquaintances

10. The lost boys Teenage brothers Michael (Jason Patric) and Sam (Corey Haim) move with their mother (Dianne Wiest) to a small town in northern California. While the younger Sam meets a pair of kindred spirits in geeky comic-book nerds Edward (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander), the angst-ridden Michael soon falls for Star (Jami Gertz) -- who turns out to be in thrall to David (Kiefer Sutherland), leader of a local gang of vampires. Sam and his new friends must save Michael and Star from the undead.

11. My best friends a vampire A teenager's (Evan Mirand) best friend (Robert Sean Leonard) delivers groceries to a mansion and is bitten by its vampire mistress.

12. hellbound hellraiser II Confined to a mental hospital, young Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) insists her supposedly dead father is stuck in hell, controlled by sadomasochistic demons after being betrayed by his evil, occult-obsessed wife, Julia (Clare Higgins). Few believe Kirsty, except the thrill-seeking Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham), who is intrigued by S&M and the young woman's lurid stories. So when Kirsty and fellow patient Tiffany (Imogen Boorman) head to hell for a rescue, Channard and Julia are close behind.

13. A professor and four graduate students journey to a house in the mountains to investigate paranormal activities, but the experiment goes awry after an alien entity starts attacking them.

... Read moreThe 1980s were undoubtedly a groundbreaking era for horror cinema, known for its practical effects and unforgettable storylines. Films like "Evil Dead" introduced viewers to the terrifying world of demonic forces and survival, while "Poltergeist" presented a haunting tale of a family haunted by malevolent spirits through their television. Meanwhile, cult classics like "Friday the 13th Part 3" solidified Jason Voorhees as a horror icon, with each sequel increasing in intrigue and terror. Other notable entries include "Videodrome", which explored the intertwining realities of media and psychological horror, and "Sleepaway Camp", infamous for its shocking twist ending that left audiences speechless. "Night of the Demons" and "Witchboard" tapped into supernatural horror, reminding viewers of the chilling possibilities that lurk in the unknown. Additionally, films like "The Lost Boys" blended teen angst with vampire lore, creating a unique fusion of horror and teenage romance. The exploration of duality in "Hellbound: Hellraiser II" provides a psychological depth that engages both the mind and the senses. Each of these films not only entertained but also left a lasting impact on the horror genre, influencing numerous films in subsequent decades and continuing to attract new audiences to this day. As you watch these terrifying masterpieces, consider how they reflect societal fears of the time, intertwining with our cultural zeitgeist. Whether you're a seasoned horror fan or a newcomer looking for classic chills, these films offer an array of thrills that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
