Heeyo wassup homies it’s chiobu here! Back with another itinerary to JB :) I go in so often some may call me Malaysian PR lol joking. I usually go into JB via public transport but this time I went in with a friend who drove (yay!) from Tuas. Am reviewing the places we tried, which are more specific to the Eco Galleria area :)
🍰 Good Husband Patisserie
💗 Gianduja cake, mushroom pastry
- Would reorder for sure. The mushroom pastry was crispy and yummmz!
🙅♀️ Sesame matcha
- Sesame was way too overpowering and could hardly taste the matcha ):
- Just a disclaimer, this is the first sesame matcha latte I’ve tried so I don’t have a benchmark to compare it to!
- They also have another outlet at the Mount Austin area :)
🍣 Tokiwa Osaka
💗 Unagi donabe, sashimi, chicken ball
- Donabe was sweet and unagi was flavourful. Quite huge, can fill 4-5 bowls!
- Sashimi was thick-cut and umami!
- Chicken ball with egg was pretty tasty too :)
😊 (Can try): Potato salad, pork skewer, oden
- My friends loooove the potato salad, seems to be more unique than the usual. But categorised it under can try cuz I personally don’t love potato salad haha.
- Pork skewers were flavourful but a bit tough imo!
- Nothing to shout about for oden but can consider if you are craving for it.
🍧 Ben Gong’s Tea
💗 Mango shaved ice
- I don’t rly like bingsu cuz the ice is usually quite plain, but this ice was infused with mango! Four of us shared one.
- Would top up with taro or milk ball next time since I love these heh.

However, if you’re eyeing the sesame matcha latte, be prepared for a strong sesame flavor that may overpower the matcha, especially if you’re trying it for the first time. At Tokiwa Osaka, the unagi donabe is a crowd favorite because of its generous portions and rich flavor. I particularly enjoyed the thick-cut sashimi and the savory chicken balls with egg. Friends who enjoy potato salad rave about that dish here, so it can be a great addition if you want to try something different from typical Japanese sides. Pork skewers are tasty but a bit on the tougher side, so go for it if you like a chewier texture. Ben Gong's Tea offers an excellent mango shaved ice with ice infused with mango juice—much better than your usual plain bingsu. Next time, I’d top it up with taro or milk balls for an extra treat. Overall, half a day is enough to get a satisfying food tour around this area, especially if you plan to pop into other places like Jaya Grocer. If you’re looking to extend your stay or have more time, check out other itineraries focused on JB’s vibrant food scene and shopping spots.
