COLLEGE BREAK IN CHARLESTON
Over break my mom and I went to Charleston for a little girls trip and I completely fell in love with the city! We made sure we had enough time to fully explore the city on our own time, while also scheduling some tours. I learned a lot on the tours because our tour guides were so enthusiastic and engaging. I would definitely add a tour or two onto your Charleston itinerary!
After my recent college spring break trip to Charleston, I genuinely believe it's one of the best places to escape to when your university campus feels completely empty. It's not just a pretty city; it offers such a diverse range of activities that truly cater to a fun, yet relaxing, break. If you're wondering what to do when everyone else has left campus, Charleston is your answer! One of my favorite parts was diving into Charleston’s rich history. We took a fantastic historic walking tour that brought the grand yellow historic houses to life. Our guide pointed out so many fascinating architectural details and shared captivating stories about the city's past, making every cobblestone street feel like a step back in time. I also highly recommend looking into a food tour – we did one and sampled incredible local cuisine, from gourmet dishes to classic Southern comfort food. It's a delicious way to learn about the culture and find some new favorite spots! For a dose of charm and some retail therapy, you absolutely have to visit Rainbow Row. Seeing those vibrant, pastel-colored historic houses in person is even better than photos – it’s picture-perfect! We spent an afternoon browsing the cute boutique shops, finding unique souvenirs and stylish pieces that felt distinctly Charleston. And of course, no trip is complete without a photo op at the iconic Pineapple Fountain – it’s a refreshing spot on a sunny day and a must-see landmark. If you’re looking to unwind and soak up some sun, Folly Beach is just a short drive away. I spent a blissful afternoon there, just lying on the sand with a book, listening to the ocean. It’s the perfect antidote to semester stress and a great way to enjoy the coastal beauty. Don't forget to explore the arched market hall too; it’s a fantastic place to pick up local items like a cozy sweatshirt, handmade crafts, or unique gifts to remember your trip. A huge tip for fellow college students: Charleston is incredibly walkable, especially downtown, so you can save a lot on transportation costs. Look for student discounts on tours or attractions if you can! We found some great local eateries that were delicious and didn’t break the bank, which is always a plus. Pack comfortable shoes because you'll want to explore every corner. And seriously, don't underestimate the power of a good tour guide – they make the history and culture so much more engaging. This city truly offers a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion, making it an ideal choice for your next college break when you're looking to get away from the quiet campus.
