WOULD YOU STAND HERE?!

I got to St. Maartens on my Royal Caribbean cruise and headed straight to Maho Beach! This spot is famous for planes flying insanely low right over the beach before landing at Princess Juliana International Airport!

I gotta say… it’s THRILLING to experience in person.... but please be cautious. I was way too scared to stand directly underneath so I stayed off to the side... and honestly, I’m glad I did!

BE CAREFUL ⚠️ The jet blast can be extremely powerful and can knock you down or push you toward the rocks or ocean. Watch from a safe spot and follow all posted warning signs, please!

Anyway now after scolding you all!! lol a little St. Maarten fun fact: this tiny 37-square-mile Caribbean island is shared by TWO countries! The Dutch side is Sint Maarten and the French side is Saint-Martin with an open border between them. The island also has 37 beaches, but Maho Beach might be the one you HAVE to visit on your date gateaway ✈️

Would you stand underneath the plane or watch from the side like me?! 😂

... Read moreVisiting Maho Beach is genuinely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, especially for aviation enthusiasts and cruise travelers. The unique thrill comes from standing in a spot where the planes fly just above your head as they make their final approach to Princess Juliana International Airport. This close proximity is rare worldwide, and the beach has become famous precisely for this adrenaline-pumping feature. When I was there, I was amazed not only by the low-flying aircraft but also by how powerful the jet blast can be. It's important to emphasize safety because the wind force from jet engines can easily knock people off their feet or even send loose objects flying, which can be hazardous. Following posted warning signs and choosing a safe viewing spot off to the side—as I did—helps you enjoy the spectacle without risk. Beyond the airplanes, St. Maarten itself is an intriguing destination with its dual nationality—divided between the Dutch Sint Maarten and the French Saint-Martin. I found this cultural combination fascinating, offering diverse food, shops, and experiences within a very compact island. The open border makes it seamless to explore both sides during your visit. If your itinerary allows, take the chance to explore more of the island’s 37 beaches, each with a unique vibe and beauty. However, Maho Beach is definitely a standout for those who want to add some excitement to their Caribbean cruise stop, especially if you’re cruising with Royal Caribbean or other lines that dock nearby. For those planning a visit, consider timing your beach stroll to coincide with flight arrivals and departures for the best views. Early morning or late afternoon flights often provide dramatic photo opportunities. And don’t forget to bring a good pair of sunglasses and ear protection, as the jet engines are loud and bright. Maho Beach offers not only a thrilling adventure but also a unique way to connect with the energy and culture of the Caribbean islands. Whether you stand directly under a plane landing or safely aside like me, it’s an unforgettable memory to add to your travel story.
