Marathon

As my marathon approaches, I gradually increase my mileage. Last week, I participated in a half marathon and secured first place overall with a time of one hour and 28 minutes. I am confident that I will deliver my best performance in the upcoming marathon.

... Read moreTraining for a marathon is a rewarding journey that involves careful planning and consistent effort. Increasing mileage gradually is a smart approach to avoid injury and build endurance. After successfully completing a half marathon, especially with a strong time like 1 hour and 28 minutes, runners gain both physical and mental confidence for tackling a full marathon. In addition to mileage, incorporating rest days and cross-training activities such as cycling or swimming can improve overall fitness and reduce the risk of overuse injuries. Nutrition also plays a crucial role; fueling your body with balanced meals rich in carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats supports recovery and energy levels. Many runners find that pacing strategies during training runs help simulate race day conditions. Practicing hydration and energy gel intake on longer runs ensures that your body adapts well to fueling needs during the marathon. It’s equally important to listen to your body. If you experience unusual pain or fatigue, consider adjusting your training intensity to prevent setbacks. Joining group runs or working with a coach can offer motivation and expert guidance. Overall, approaching marathon preparation with a well-rounded training plan combining gradual mileage increase, proper nutrition, rest, and pacing will set you up for a successful race day performance and help you achieve personal bests.

I am so proud to say I ran my first Half Marathon! I put in a lot of training and hard work. I almost couldn’t run this because 3 weeks before my race I developed a stress injury. I seen doctors, had an mri, went to physical therapy, recovery therapy, and did everything I could to run this race.

Half Marathon Training Plan
Last week I ran my first half marathon in almost 2 years!! I had taken a break from longer distances and stuck to 5 and 10Ks for a while since that’s what I enjoy most! But training for this half helped me get motivated to do longer runs and actually ignited a new love for longer (for me) runs!
