Desperately Seeking Mold Removal Tips: Send Help!
#letschat i tried everything I put some bleach, Ajax, dish soap and I scrub and the little white crack filler stuff is coming off as I’m trying to scrub the mold off. Do you guys know any tips or tricks I could use to get rid of it
I totally get the frustration, believe me! I was in the exact same boat, staring at that stubborn black mold in my shower corner, especially along the caulk line. It felt like no matter how hard I scrubbed, it just laughed at me, and I was so worried about what it was doing to my family's health, like those pesky mold toxicity rashes or allergic reactions. After trying everything under the sun, from harsh chemicals that just made things worse (and stripped my caulk!) to endless scrubbing with little to no results, I finally found some natural hacks that actually work wonders. My absolute go-to secret weapon? Baking soda! It's not just for baking, folks. Here’s how I use it: First, I make a thick paste with baking soda and a little bit of water. You want it to be thick enough to stick to the moldy areas. Then, I generously apply this paste directly onto the black mold spots, especially in those tricky shower corners and along the caulk. I let it sit for at least 15-20 minutes – sometimes even longer for really stubborn patches. This gives the baking soda time to absorb moisture and start breaking down the mold. After it's had time to work its magic, I grab an old toothbrush or a stiff-bristled cleaning brush (a small scrubbing brush works great here!) and gently scrub away. You'll be amazed at how much easier the mold comes off compared to just scrubbing with soap. Rinse thoroughly with water, and you'll see a noticeable difference. For an extra punch, especially against persistent mold, I often combine baking soda with white vinegar. After rinsing off the baking soda, I spray the area generously with undiluted white vinegar. Vinegar is a fantastic natural disinfectant and mold killer. Let the vinegar sit for another 15-30 minutes. The acidity helps to kill any remaining mold spores and also helps whiten the surfaces. After that, another quick scrub and rinse, and your shower will be gleaming. I sometimes use a clean cloth soaked in white vinegar for a quick wipe-down on tiles too. Another powerful ally in my mold removal arsenal is hydrogen peroxide. If you're dealing with really tough mold that just won't budge, or you're concerned about killing all the spores thoroughly, hydrogen peroxide is a great option. I typically use a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution (the kind you find in drugstores). Pour it into a spray bottle and spray directly onto the mold. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow it to kill the mold. You might even see it fizzing a bit! Then, scrub and rinse. It's especially effective in areas like behind shower tile if you can access it, or for really deep-seated black mold spots. Just be careful not to mix it directly with vinegar as it can create harmful fumes. These natural solutions are not only effective but also much safer than harsh chemicals, especially when you're cleaning in an enclosed space like a bathroom. Always make sure to have good ventilation – open a window or turn on the fan. Wearing gloves is also a good idea to protect your skin. Beyond just cleaning, preventing mold from coming back is key! After every shower, I try to squeegee the walls and door, and leave the bathroom fan running for at least 20-30 minutes. Keeping surfaces dry is the best defense against mold. Also, regularly checking and resealing your caulk can prevent water from seeping into those hard-to-reach places where mold behind shower tile can start. It's a bit of effort, but totally worth it for a clean, healthy bathroom!

I make a cleaning mix that should help. I was gonna post it soon but I'll share it here. 50 parts dawn dish soap 50 parts vinegar. Shake well, wet surface, spray down, let sit for up to 10 mins, wipe with a warm wet cloth. It should help.
