Baby's first flight (Dunsparce)

I've always had a soft spot for Dunsparce. There’s something so endearing about this often-overlooked Pokémon, and for the longest time, I’ve imagined what it would be like if it could truly take to the skies. That’s where the inspiration for this 'baby’s first flight' piece came from! I wanted to capture that magical, slightly clumsy moment of a creature defying expectations and just soaring. Bringing a concept like 'Dunsparce flying' to life as traditional art was a really fun challenge. I started by sketching out a few poses, trying to find one that felt dynamic yet still true to Dunsparce's unique charm. The idea of it just slightly off the ground, maybe with a little surprised look on its face, really appealed to me. It's not about being super speedy, but more about the wonder of flight itself. I wanted to evoke that feeling of pure, unadulterated joy in its first airborne adventure. For the actual drawing, I focused on getting crisp lines and vibrant colors. My secret weapon for the outlines and those delicate details on Dunsparce's wings (or what I imagined as wings!) was definitely my Sharipie® ULTRA permanent fine marker. That fine point made it so easy to define the scales and the subtle textures on its body without bleeding. Using a permanent marker also gave me confidence that the colors wouldn't smudge or fade over time, which is so important when you're putting a lot of effort into a piece. It really helps to make the art pop and gives it a professional finish. I played around with different shades of blue and yellow to give the impression of movement and sunlight catching its form. The background was kept simple, just a hint of clouds, so Dunsparce really stands out as the star of the show. It was a rewarding process, seeing my vision slowly come together on paper.
