It doesn’t get easier… it just gets quieter.
Today Flambo asked for Espeon “where?” and then came over to me and hit “and… why.”
Maybe it was random… but often times you guys tell me it’s not. So maybe it isn’t.
It’s been 9 months without her, and there isn’t a single day I wouldn’t give anything to have her back.
Before anyone asks, yes, we were all there with her when she passed. All three boys and me. And I will forever be grateful she gave us that moment together.
Grief looks different now. It’s in the little things, in the way the house feels, in the habits that never left, in Rupert warming the bed at night… doing things that remind me so much of her.
We miss you every single day, Espeon 🤍
Experiencing the loss of a beloved pet like Espeon is deeply personal and can reshape your everyday life in subtle yet profound ways. From my own journey through grief, I’ve found that the silence left after a pet passes doesn’t mean the pain diminishes—it often just becomes quieter and more reflective. Little triggers, like hearing a familiar sound or noticing a favorite spot left untouched, can bring waves of memory and emotion. It’s common for surviving pets to show changes too, much like Rupert warming the bed at night, acting as living reminders of the one who’s gone. These behaviors often symbolize the enduring bond and shared history they had, which keeps the memory alive. Grieving together with family members or other pets can provide immense comfort, especially when you hold onto the moments shared in final goodbyes. From personal experience, honoring the routine and habits that a lost pet had can be healing. Whether it’s continuing to talk about them, keeping their belongings nearby, or creating a small memorial spot, these acts help maintain a connection. Taking the time to let each family member—including other pets—grieve in their own way is vital for emotional health. Remember, grief is not linear and doesn’t follow a set timeline; it evolves. Nine months in, you might find that you handle sadness differently, noticing it in the quiet spaces rather than in overwhelming waves. It’s okay to seek solace in community forums, similar to #dogsoftiktok or #talkingdog groups, where others share stories, coping strategies, and empathy. Through shared experience, we find strength. Ultimately, the love for Espeon remains unwavering. While the void is significant, the memories and love persist, manifesting in everyday moments and the heartwarming presence of those left behind.

I'm so sorry for you and your boys.
