Make a welcome to drag kit w/ me!
Check out all the goodies I included in my welcome to drag box I made for my new bestie!
Everything was purchased at the thrift store & dollar tree.
1. Gift bag- instead of buying a new bag, I opt for a thrifted bag and used some letter stickers I already had!
2. Makeup box- I found the toolbox at Dollar Tree for $5 and it’s perfect for all the drag makeup and hair essentials! I love to add stickers to personalize it!
3. Just in case- Bobby pins, nail glue, lash glue and safety pins, and a mirror, all drag essentials commonly forgotten/needed!
4. Face & body- body wipes, makeup wipes, qtips, hair band. Necessary for staying fresh, correcting makeup mistakes and keeping your hair out of the way while you get in face!
5. First aid- electrolytes & water bottle for staying hydrated, first aid kit for all those death drop accidents, Tylenol for the post show aches and pains, lotion, breath strips for after eating your favorite pre show snacks!
6. Post show- foot mask, bath salts and toe spacers to relax and recover the day after a show! Journal to write about how the show went and plan your next routine!
7. Welcome box: stuffed unicorn to remind you how much magic your drag brings to the world, personalized photo frame to display a photo from your first show, potpourri bags to keep in your drag bag to keep your costumes smelling fresh, luggage tag to keep track of your drag bags!
I also included some zipper bags to carry extra makeup, lingerie pieces and wigs!
Stepping into the vibrant "World of Drag" is an incredible journey, and having a well-stocked welcome kit can make all the difference for a new performer! My goal with this kit was to support a truly joyful and confident debut, proving you don't need a huge budget to look and feel fabulous. Let's dive deeper into why these essentials contribute to that perfect feminine illusion and joyful experience. Beyond just a makeup box, think about the tools that sculpt your drag persona. For that flawless, often exaggerated feminine look, investing in good foundation, contour palettes, and bold eyeshadows is key. And don't forget the details! While I included nail glue, expanding into different nail products can really elevate a look. Consider a few sets of press-on nails or even a small nail art kit. Long, dramatic nails are a hallmark of many femme drag styles, adding that extra touch of glamour and confidence to every gesture. Learning to apply them well, perhaps with a quick YouTube tutorial, can be a fun and rewarding part of the transformation. Another crucial aspect of a stunning drag transformation is the wig. While my kit mentions zipper bags for wigs, let's talk about wig care for a moment. A beautiful wig is often the crowning glory of a drag look! Including a wide-tooth comb, a wig cap, and a small bottle of wig conditioner can extend the life and beauty of synthetic wigs, ensuring they always look fresh and ready for the stage. Knowing your wig is secure and styled perfectly adds immense joy and comfort during a performance. Personalization, as seen with my idea to add stickers to the toolbox/makeup case, isn't just about aesthetics; it's about making the kit truly *theirs*. Encourage your drag bestie to decorate their gift box or toolbox with their drag name, favorite colors, or inspiring quotes. This makes the kit a personal treasure, reflecting their unique drag journey and boosting that feeling of ownership and joy. Finally, let's circle back to the "First aid/ extras" and "Post show recovery!" items. These might seem less glamorous, but they are absolutely vital for maintaining that joyful energy. Electrolytes and pain relief aren't just for accidents; they're for ensuring comfort and readiness for the next show. And those bath salts and foot masks? They're pure self-care. Drag can be physically demanding, and knowing you have the tools to relax, recover, and rejuvenate means you're always ready to bring your A-game, performance after performance. Being prepared for anything, from a costume malfunction (safety pins!) to post-show aches, allows a performer to focus on what truly matters: connecting with the audience and bringing joy to the stage. This comprehensive approach ensures that every aspect of being a drag artist, from the initial transformation to the recovery, is supported, leading to a truly empowering and joyful experience in the "World of Drag".
