Healing a bit of religious trauma,Making flowers

3/2 Edited to

... Read moreUsing art as a coping mechanism for trauma is a deeply personal and powerful journey. In my experience, transforming old books, especially those like bibles and hymnals that once held heavy emotional weight, into delicate paper flowers has brought me a sense of renewal and calm. It’s a way of reclaiming pain and turning it into beauty. What makes this process even more meaningful is the ethical sourcing of materials. Upcycling thrifted and well-loved books not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also adds layers of history and stories to the artwork. Each fold and petal represents both the past and the possibility of healing. For those with disabilities or chronic illnesses, physical activities like dance may not always be feasible. Art, such as making paper flowers, offers a gentle yet expressive outlet. It requires patience and care, giving space to reflect and process complex emotions tied to religious trauma. Colors, textures, and shapes become tools for storytelling without words, enabling an intimate dialogue with oneself. This creative ritual has helped me not only to externalize difficult feelings but also to celebrate resilience and growth. If you’re considering this kind of artistic therapy, start small. Look for materials that resonate with your personal history. Allow yourself the grace to create imperfectly. Through this process, you might discover a meaningful path to healing that is unique and fulfilling.
