SMASHED BURGERS BY A 17 YEAR OLD CHEF 🍔🧑‍🍳

📍 smashed jr.

i was very intrigued when i saw this stall on tiktok 😆 it’s owned and run by a 17 year old chef 👦🏻 who’s still studying, yet juggling a whole bazaar stall at kampung admiralty. respect honestly!!

they sell smashed burgers, roti john, pani puri and drinks, and the flavours are super gen z hahaha 🍔 from mentaiko and peanut butter to samyang kimchi and the classic.

i tried the mentaiko smashed burger and it was legit good! the patty was really thin, so it had that proper crisp and char all over. the mentaiko sauce added creaminess and umami instead of just the usual salty cheese vibe. plus they use buttered brioche buns, which were fluffy but sturdy enough to hold everything together.

their roti john was HUGE!! actually can share between 2 pax. it’s stuffed with beef, cheese and onions, almost like a philly cheesesteak 🧀🥩 super messy to eat but in the best way possible :)

skip the usual fries and try their pani puri instead! you get to diy everything and stuff the crispy shells with their creamy masala potatoes 🥔 quite a fun side to share.

overall i was really satisfied with everything i tried :) go support him if you’re around the area, because he’s really cooking up solid food despite his young age 😆

... Read moreIf you're a fan of smashed burgers, you might wonder how this style compares to popular spots like those in Bugis or even international flavors such as Kathmandu's versions. What stands out about this young chef's offerings is the creative twist on classic smashed burgers, incorporating bold Gen Z flavors like peanut butter and samyang kimchi, which add an adventurous edge beyond typical burger joints. Beyond just taste, the choice of buttered brioche buns adds a savory richness and satisfies texture lovers looking for a balance between fluffiness and sturdiness. The thin patty technique ensures a crispy outside and juicy bite, reminding me of the precision you’d expect from seasoned chefs but done expertly by this young talent. Also noteworthy is their massive roti john—perfect for sharing and reminiscent of a Philly cheesesteak with its mix of beef, cheese, and onions. It’s enjoyable to dive into something messy yet flavorful, making the eating experience fun. For a refreshing alternative to fries, the DIY pani puri side is not only tasty but engaging, letting you customize and fill the crispy shells with creamy masala potatoes. This interactive dish offers a delightful contrast to the heavier burger and roti john options. Overall, supporting this stall at Kampung Admiralty provides a chance to enjoy solid, innovative food from a passionate young chef. Whether you're local or visiting, it’s a fresh take on smashed burgers and street eats, showing how youthful creativity is shaping the food scene.
