HOMEMADE HEALTHY CHINESE DESSERTS 🍨

📍 sweet kin

this has to be my mum’s favourite hbb hahaha because the homemade desserts they sell are completely her type! they specialise in traditional chinese desserts made with nourishing ingredients like lotus seeds, barley, peach gum and more.

i tried 3 of their signature bases: monkfruit & dried coconut jelly, roselle hawthorn jelly and peach gum. for each bowl, you can DIY the toppings to your liking :) the ingredients included in my bowls were all their recommended pairings, and they worked really well together.

my favourite was the monkfruit & dried coconut jelly! in chinese it’s 罗汉果 (luo han guo), which is such a nostalgic drink that i used to get from herbal tea shops when i was younger. the flavour is SUPER strong though, so if you’re not a fan you might want to skip this one 😆 the mochi balls, lotus seeds, 雪燕 and china barley added really nice textures that made every bite interesting. i also appreciated that there’s no sugar added, so it felt really nourishing and light 😊

the roselle hawthorn jelly was a bit sweeter than i personally prefer, but if you have a sweet tooth 🍬🦷 you’ll probably enjoy it. my mum’s favourite was the peach gum & white fungus bowl. it had the mildest flavour and was the least sweet overall, and she just really loves peach gum 😆 their bowls honestly feel perfect for parents!

they also sell drinks like their roselle hawthorn sparkling tea, which comes with roselle hawthorn soft jelly, slow-brewed roselle, hawthorn, smoked plum, black mulberries and french rose. it’s sweet, fruity and tangy all at once 🥤

overall, this hbb is perfect for anyone who enjoys traditional chinese desserts that are nourishing and minimally sweetened. check them out @sweetkin_sg

... Read moreIf you’re curious about the benefits of ingredients commonly used in healthy Chinese desserts, here’s some insight from my experience exploring Sweet Kin’s offerings. Monkfruit (罗汉果, luo han guo) is a natural sweetener with zero calories, traditionally prized in Chinese herbal remedies for its cooling properties. It provides a strong, distinctive sweetness without added sugar, making it ideal for anyone watching their sugar intake. Peach gum is a resin from peach trees known for its texture and collagen-boosting benefits. Combined with white fungus and snow swallow (雪燕), it creates a jelly-like bowl with a mild taste and nourishing qualities that many parents appreciate. Barley and lotus seeds add heartiness and subtle nutty flavors, while mochi balls and the unique texture of jelly bases stimulate your palate, making every bite enjoyable. The roselle hawthorn jelly variety tends to be sweeter, so it’s great if you like a tangy, fruit-forward dessert, but those who prefer less sweetness might opt for the monkfruit or peach gum bowls instead. Sweet Kin also offers refreshing drinks incorporating these ingredients, such as their roselle hawthorn sparkling tea—a perfect balance of sweet, fruity, and tangy notes that complement the desserts wonderfully. Exploring these ingredients not only satisfies dessert cravings but also supports a healthier lifestyle by reducing refined sugar consumption and incorporating traditional, nourishing elements into your diet. For anyone interested in wholesome Asian desserts, Sweet Kin’s homemade treats are definitely worth trying!

Healthy homemade tomato sauce w/o preservatives
I used to rely on bottled tomato sauces like Prego until I realised how much salt and preservatives there are in them, which made me decide to make mine from scratch 🍅 Even though it takes more time and effort, but the flavour feels lighter ✨ , colour is a lighter coral-pink and makes me at ease
