THIS HOMEBAKER MAKES SUPER CREATIVE SHIOPANS 🥐🧈

📍 poof of concept

if i had one word to describe this homebased bakery, it would be INNOVATIVE ✨ i’m usually someone who goes for the classic items that i know will be good, so her interesting and fun flavours made me a lil apprehensive initially 😆😅

i tried her signature shiopan, the kaya garlic cream cheese. the combination sounded a bit weird upon first hearing it, but the more i thought about it, the more confident i was that i’d like it hahaha. i’m a sucker for a mix of sweet and salty flavours because that’s what keeps things exciting imo 😄 this was exactly that! the balance of the sweet kaya, creamy cheese and aromatic roasted garlic made for an extremely flavour-packed bun. i usually avoid garlic cream cheese breads because they sound and feel too heavy for me, but the kaya was a really great neutralising agent!! i was craving this again for breakfast hahaha.

her other cool invention was the apple chutney laksa, which came with laksa butter cream and apple chutney. this one… i didn’t know if it would work HAHA but i’m glad i tried it. the apple chunks were sweet with a slight tartness, and the laksa cream wasn’t as strong as i expected. it had a mild spice that paired really well with the apple. she absolutely nailed the balance of flavours, because if the laksa had been any stronger, idt i’d have liked it as much hahaha.

the OG french butter is a safe option, but since you’re already trying her shiopans, i highly recommend going for the wacky flavours because you won’t be able to find them elsewhere! i really applaud her courage and creativity, and everyone should definitely check out her shiopans :)

I recently experimented with some creative versions myself and learned that balancing sweet and savory is key to making these buns irresistible. For instance, kaya garlic cream cheese offers a fantastic harmony—the sweetness of kaya tempers the pungency of roasted garlic, while the cream cheese adds a smooth, tangy richness. When exploring wilder flavors like apple chutney laksa, it's important to consider spice levels and ingredient pairing. The milder laksa butter cream combined with sweet-tart apple chutney creates an unexpectedly pleasant contrast that’s not overwhelming but deeply flavorful. I’ve found that mild spices in such innovative bakes enhance rather than overpower the taste, making each bite exciting yet accessible. If you enjoy experimenting with baked goods, homebased bakeries offering non-traditional shiopan flavors are a real treat. They showcase creativity and courage to step beyond classic options like the OG French butter, inviting food lovers to try something novel that can awaken their palate. Plus, supporting such bakers means encouraging local innovation in the culinary scene. For breakfast or a snack, these shiopans bring fun diversity and a taste adventure. I recommend trying the signature varieties with a mix of sweet, salty, and spicy elements. These inventive creations prove that traditional pastries can be reinvented deliciously, combining local flavors with classic baking techniques to delight and surprise.
