🌿 Have you ever grown loofah?
Every year, I grow loofah vines in the Kuma Café garden.
This year, they have just started climbing along the fence near the entrance. They are still small for now, but before long, long green loofahs will be hanging there for visitors to see.
These photos are from a previous season, and I’m hoping this year’s plants will grow just as beautifully.
When the fruit fully matures and dries, the inside becomes a completely natural sponge.
I love using loofah for so many things:
🧽 washing dishes
🥕 cleaning vegetables
🛁 gentle body exfoliation
🏡 household cleaning
And when it reaches the end of its life, it can return to the soil, which makes it a lovely alternative to synthetic sponges.
It is also surprisingly easy to grow. I honestly do very little — just give it a sunny place, a little fertilizer from time to time, and space to climb. After that, it seems to take care of itself.
If you visit Kuma Café later this summer, look up at the entrance fence. You may find the loofahs hanging there, welcoming you. 🌼
