From my experience, preparation and a respectful attitude are vital. Firstly, always ensure you know the visitation rules of the specific correctional facility before going. These rules often cover items you can bring, dress codes, and behavior expectations. When visiting, punctuality is a must. Arriving early helps you pass through security without stress and shows respect for the process. Dress modestly and appropriately, as many prison facilities have strict guidelines about clothing styles and coverage. Communication during visits should be positive and supportive. Avoid discussing anything related to criminal activities or negative topics that could cause distress. Instead, focus on encouraging your loved one, sharing updates from the outside world, and reinforcing your relationship. Avoid confrontational behavior or any actions that could be perceived as disruptive. This includes refraining from bringing in unauthorized items or trying to sneak contraband, which can jeopardize not only your visit but also the inmate's status. Lastly, self-care is crucial. Prison visits can bring up complex emotions, so it's important to process these feelings afterward, perhaps by talking with trusted friends or support groups. Remember, each visit is a step towards maintaining connection and offering encouragement, which can positively affect both your and your loved one’s mental well-being during incarceration.

Like, hyper specific—mine is when people order things at the coffee shop I work at as “one of ‘your’ x thing” instead of “a thing” or “the thing” and I couldn’t explain it to save my life. I know there have to be some equally ridiculous ones out there; hit me! #letschat #AskLemon8 #petpe
