IT’S WASHDAY — My washday routine 🍋👩🏾🦱
Hey everyone, I’m finally back with a new post, today I’m taking y’all along my washday!
- Although I went natural 8 years ago, I only started property taking care of my hair in 2020. Now I think I understand my hair and her needs, and was able to develop a nice and quick(-ish) routine. Few notes;
1- The product brands don’t really matter to me as long as they do what they are supposed to, I’m cool with that.
2- I’ve adopted puffs as my go to hairstyle. I make sure to not get it too tight and I spray water every night.
3- Sometimes I would get twists to get my hair out of my face, but most of the time I’ll go for scarves. It’s quick and easy.
Now here’s some details on my routine:
Step 1: Detangle. For this I look for a product with a lot of slip. Unfortunately, I ran out of detangler so I decided to use this African pride conditioner instead. It does the job, I just had to add some water to make it liquified. Always work in small sections, take your time, and be gentle.
Step 2: Wash and condition. No matter what, I always use a clarifying shampoo. More often than not I have build up and dandruff so a clarifying shampoo is my go to. This time, I used Odele as I was curious about the brand. So far it’s okay, my scalp doesn’t feel completely clean so it’s probably not gonna be repurchased. As for the conditioner, I always let it sit for 10 mins under a plastic bag and a hot towel. I’ll usually dip the towel in warm water, wring it out, and wrap it. It’s a bit messy but it works. I also finger Detangle at this point because I’m tender headed.
Step 3: Styling. After rinsing the conditioner out, I either put leave-in conditioner, or mousse. Today I only had mousse, I know it’s not necessarily moisturizing but I don’t really care, it works as long as I don’t over do it. Blue magic is my holy grail 👐🏾 I only put on my ends since my scalp is prone to flakiness. This time, I used the styling jam because I wanted to do a twist out (it failed 🥲).
The last pics are some of the styles I did. I usually wash my hair every week or two week depending on how much school work is there. I don’t really stress about my hair as much as before, and that’s probably why she grew so much. Honestly the longest part about this routine is detangling and moisturizing. I’m generally slow with my hair (again, tender headed) so all of this takes me about 2 hours, sometimes 3 if I feel like blow drying my hair.
That is all for me, thanks for tuning in! See you guys next time 😊

Finding the right washday products can make all the difference in your hair care journey. Many naturalistas engage in core steps such as detangling, washing, and styling tailored specifically for their hair type. Detangling should focus on products with slip to reduce breakage — conditioners designed with moisturizing benefits can also enhance the process. A clarifying shampoo can be ideal for removing buildup, especially after wearing protective styles. While some prefer mousse for styling due to its lightweight nature, others may lean towards leave-in conditioners or creams that provide extra moisture. Your routine should evolve with your hair’s needs and the frequency of washing can vary; generally, weekly washing works for most. Additionally, incorporating techniques like the baggy method can help retain moisture in between washes. Remember, every washday is an opportunity to pamper your hair, fostering growth and health. Embrace the journey of discovering what works best for your hair while potentially exploring styling options that allow versatility and personal expression. With consistent care, you may notice improvements in hair texture and growth, reflecting your unique hair journey!
