Honey 🍯 you have boyfriend?
You know, there's just something about being a nail tech that makes clients feel like they can ask literally ANYTHING. And top of that list? The classic, 'Honey, do you have a boyfriend?' Oh, the stories I could tell! It’s funny how often that phrase, 'honey relationship,' pops up in conversations, isn't it? It's not just a term of endearment; it often opens the door to a whole personal chat about dating, love, and life. I remember my first day working as a nail tech like it was yesterday. My hands were shaking a little, trying to get that perfect cuticle push, and then – boom! – a sweet lady, probably in her 70s, leaned in and whispered, 'Honey, are you seeing anyone?' My face must have been beet red! I stammered out a 'no,' and she immediately launched into tales of her youth, giving me unsolicited (but very entertaining) dating advice. It was a hilarious start to what I quickly learned is a very personal job. Fast forward to now, after three years working in this incredible industry, and those 'honey relationship' questions don't faze me anymore. In fact, I almost anticipate them! They've become a fun litmus test for how comfortable a client feels with me. Some clients will just ask directly, while others weave it in after we’ve discussed everything from vacation plans to celebrity gossip. I’ve even had clients try to set me up with their sons or nephews! One time, a client was so insistent on finding me a partner that she pulled out her phone right there at the nail station to show me pictures of her 'eligible' neighbor. Talk about dedication! It’s not always about finding a boyfriend, though. Sometimes, the 'honey relationship' query leads to deep, meaningful conversations. I’ve shared laughter over dating mishaps and even teared up with clients discussing heartbreak. There's a unique bond that forms when you're literally holding someone's hand, creating beauty, and they entrust you with their stories. The term 'honey' itself feels so warm and inviting, truly setting the stage for these intimate exchanges. Whether I'm single, dating, or in a relationship, the conversation always flows. Clients love to share their own experiences, offer advice, or just listen. It's like a mini therapy session for everyone involved, often sprinkled with humor. I've learned so much about human connections, expectations, and the many forms a 'honey relationship' can take, simply by listening to my clients' wisdom. It's definitely one of the unexpected perks of the job – getting paid to do nails and getting free relationship insights!
