What I packed for work
Some of the reasons I pack meals for “lunch.” I work late, so I’m strategic about how I eat. I eat the meal first and then the snack later to stay satiated without overeating late at night. However, the portion sizes may seem small because I’m a weight loss surgery patient. You can replicate these meals at a larger portion size, but the ratio would remain the same. Lately, I’ve been incorporating more fruits and yogurt into my diet to alleviate acid and increase fiber. Packing meals for work is an excellent strategy to maintain a healthy diet, especially for individuals managing weight loss surgery. This approach allows for control over portion sizes and food quality, reducing the temptation of less healthy options often found in workplace environments. Meals such as salmon with rice and spinach, jerk chicken with yellow rice and sweet potatoes, and baked chicken accompanied by beans and broccoli provide a balanced combination of lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and fibrous vegetables. Incorporating snacks like chia seed pudding, protein bites, or fruit bowls with low-sugar toppings such as sugar-free cool whip can help maintain energy levels and prevent overeating later. Yogurt, particularly Greek yogurt, is beneficial due to its probiotic content, which can help alleviate acid reflux and promote digestive health. Including fibrous ingredients like chickpeas and mixed vegetables enhances digestion and aids in sustained satiety. When packing meals, it is essential to maintain balanced macronutrient ratios that align with individual dietary needs. For weight loss surgery patients, smaller portion sizes with nutrient-dense foods are crucial, but the overall meal composition can be adjusted in larger portions without compromising these ratios. Planning meals ahead also supports better food choices, reduces food waste, and caters to extended work hours by providing ample nourishment throughout the day. Overall, strategic meal packing focusing on varied lean proteins, complex carbs, fiber-rich vegetables, and healthy snacks tailored to individual health requirements promotes long-term wellness and manageable weight loss.
