Feed in braids!

... Read moreFeed-in braids are an excellent protective hairstyle that not only looks stylish but also promotes hair growth by minimizing manipulation and breakage. From my personal experience, mastering the feed-in technique can be a game-changer for anyone who loves braids but wants to avoid the bulkiness often associated with traditional cornrows. What sets feed-in braids apart is how the hair extensions are gradually fed into the natural hair to create a seamless, natural appearance. This technique takes some patience and practice, but once you get the hang of it, the results are stunning. I've found that using high-quality synthetic or human hair extensions makes the braids last longer and look more natural. Before starting, make sure your hair is clean, well-moisturized, and detangled. Section your hair clearly using clips or bands to keep the parts neat. When you start braiding, take small sections of both your hair and the extension hair. Slowly feed the extension hair in as you braid along the scalp, ensuring a tight yet comfortable tension. One tip that worked well for me was to hydrate and seal my scalp and natural hair daily with lightweight oils. This practice helps maintain scalp health and prevents flaking or dryness during the time the braids are installed. Feed-in braids are versatile—you can style them in various sizes and designs. Smaller feed-in braids often look more natural and last longer, while larger ones are quicker to do and can create bold patterns. Additionally, they are less damaging compared to traditional braids because they reduce the tension from adding large bundles of hair all at once. If you are new to braiding, watching tutorial videos and practicing on someone else or a mannequin head can be highly beneficial. Eventually, you can also experiment with color and accessories like beads or cuffs to personalize your style. Overall, feed-in braids offer a blend of beauty, protection, and versatility that makes them a favorite in the natural hair community. Whether you want a sleek everyday look or a more dramatic style, learning to do feed-in braids can elevate your hairstyling skills and keep your hair healthy and thriving.

My older daughter is mixed. I always pulled her hair back in a ponytail like my hair. So she came home from school when she was 8 years old and says mama why can't my hair look like other black girls? so I told her I didn't know how to fix hair and she started fixing her own hair at 8.
