My handicat (handicap cat,) Salvador. 🫶🏻

Having Salvador, my incredible orange and white cat, is an experience filled with so much love and a few unique quirks! As you know, he was born without digits on one of his front paws, which is why I affectionately call him my 'handicat.' When I first met him, I was a little worried about how he'd adapt, but honestly, he's proven to be the most resilient and joyful little guy. He truly does hop around like he owns the place, and it’s the cutest thing to watch! His unique paw doesn't slow him down one bit. We make sure to keep his claws trimmed regularly, especially on that paw, to prevent any discomfort or ingrown nails, which can happen more easily with less support. Sometimes, I'll even put a soft little sock on it if he's exploring a rougher surface or when the weather gets a bit chilly, just to give him that extra layer of protection and comfort. But most of the time, he's just being a normal, playful cat, chasing toys and batting at sunbeams. He loves his naps – truly a master of relaxation! You can often find him curled up soundly on his favorite soft purple blanket, or sometimes even on my pillow right next to me, purring contently. It melts my heart every single time I see him so peaceful. One of the things I adore most about Salvador is his incredible curiosity and playful spirit. He's always investigating new things, whether it's a crinkly toy or a new box. I remember one time, I left my makeup palette open on the counter, and he was so fascinated, peering intensely into the compact mirror. His reflection seemed to totally captivate him! It's moments like these that remind me just how much personality this sweet boy has. He’s also a big snuggler. He has this small brown and white stuffed animal that he absolutely adores, and I often find him gently 'hugging' it while he’s resting, like it's his comfort buddy. It’s too cute for words, and I often find myself asking him, 'Why are you so cute?' because his charm is just irresistible. I'm so excited for him to finally move up to Tennessee with me. It’s a big change for both of us, but I know he'll adapt beautifully, just as he always does. We're already planning out his favorite sunny spots and new climbing perches in the new place. For anyone considering adopting a special needs cat, I can tell you it's one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have. They might need a little extra care or attention, perhaps a few modifications around the house, but the love, resilience, and unique joy they bring into your life are immeasurable. Salvador has taught me so much about perseverance and unconditional love. He’s not just a pet; he’s family, and I’m counting down the days until we’re fully reunited. Every day with him is a blessing, and I wouldn't trade his unique charm and the way he hops into my heart for anything in the world. He truly is one of a kind.
