Before the storm hits, it’s crucial to secure your home. Stocking up on essentials such as bottled water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit can be lifesaving during power outages. During the storm, finding a safe spot inside your home away from windows is important. I find basements or interior rooms on the lowest floors are the safest places. Avoid using electrical appliances and stay away from plumbing fixtures to reduce risks. After the storm passes, be cautious when venturing outside. I’ve learned to watch out for downed power lines, flooding, and debris. Taking pictures of any property damage before cleanup can help with insurance claims.
