The Daniel Fast: Seeking God Intentionally 🙏🏾

The Daniel Fast is traditionally a 21-day fast, but participation is not one-size-fits-all. Some will fast for 7 days, 10 days, or the full 21 — all are welcome.

Before you begin, be intentional.

Decide why you’re fasting and what you’re believing God for in 2026. Fasting without direction is just abstaining, but fasting with purpose invites transformation.

This fast comes from Daniel 1 and Daniel 10, where Daniel set himself apart through prayer, discipline, and devotion to God.

Comment 7, 10, or 21 if you’ll be participating 🤍

Let’s seek God together.

... Read moreEmbarking on a Daniel Fast can feel like a big step, but it's truly a rewarding journey. I often hear people wondering about the right way to do it, especially regarding the duration and what exactly to eat. It's more than just abstaining from certain foods; it's a profound spiritual discipline aimed at drawing closer to God. While the traditional Daniel Fast is known as a 21-day commitment, I've personally seen and experienced that participation isn't one-size-fits-all. Many, including myself at times, opt for a shorter fast of 7 or 10 days. The beauty of the Daniel Fast is its flexibility in duration, allowing you to align it with your spiritual goals and physical capacity. What truly matters is the intentionality behind your fast – deciding why you're doing it and what you're believing God for. A shorter, intentional fast can be just as impactful in resetting your focus and deepening your connection with the divine. The inspiration for this fast comes directly from the Bible, specifically from the prophet Daniel. In Daniel 1, we learn how Daniel and his friends chose to eat only vegetables and water, refusing the rich, king's food to honor God. Their commitment resulted in them being healthier and wiser. Later, in Daniel 10, Daniel embarks on a 'fast of three weeks' – 21 days – during a period of deep mourning and seeking understanding from God. During this time, he abstained from 'delicacies, meat, and wine.' These biblical accounts provide the foundation for the Daniel Fast, emphasizing prayer, discipline, and devotion to God. It’s a powerful illustration of how setting aside physical comforts can open us up to spiritual revelation. Now, for the most practical question I get: "What can I actually eat?" The Daniel Fast focuses on plant-based foods, consumed in their most natural state. Think of it as a clean eating period with a spiritual purpose. The core principle is to nourish your body with wholesome, God-given foods while abstaining from anything that might distract from your spiritual focus. Foods to embrace (Eat List): Fruits: Fresh, frozen, dried (with no added sugar), or canned in water (no syrup). Apples, bananas, berries, oranges, grapes – the options are endless! Vegetables: Fresh, frozen, canned (without added salt or sugar), raw, steamed, or roasted. Leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes all fit perfectly. Whole Grains: Brown rice, oats, quinoa, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread (ensure it's yeast-free and unsweetened), millet, barley. Legumes: All types of beans (black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans), lentils, peas, chickpeas. They're great for protein and fiber. Nuts & Seeds: Raw, unsalted almonds, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds. Nut butters (without added sugar or oils) are also allowed. Healthy Oils: Olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil (use sparingly for cooking). Water: Plenty of purified water is essential, as is 100% natural fruit juice (also sparingly). Foods to avoid (Avoid List): Meat & Animal Products: No beef, chicken, fish, pork, or any animal protein. Dairy: No milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, or eggs. Sugar & Sweeteners: This includes cane sugar, honey, maple syrup, artificial sweeteners, and anything with added sugars. Leavened Bread: No bread containing yeast or baking soda/powder. Processed Foods: Avoid anything with artificial flavors, colors, additives, or preservatives. Caffeine & Alcohol: No coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks, or alcoholic beverages. I personally found that focusing on what I could eat, rather than what I couldn't, made the process much more enjoyable. It encouraged me to explore new recipes and appreciate the simplicity of natural foods. Remember, the physical fast is a tool; the ultimate goal is to deepen your relationship with God through prayer, obedience, and devotion. It's truly a journey of transformation!

Doing a combo. We are breaking the full 21 days up so the first 7 days just devotional time twice a day online with our workbooks Then the next 7 days will still do devotional but adding on working out at least 15 min to 1 hour (14 days) and the next 7 days will be adding in the fasting (21 days) along with the devotional and working out
