It’s funny how family events often come with this unspoken expectation that someone, usually not a parent, will take charge of entertaining and keeping an eye on the little ones. From my experience, this can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you’re not in the mood or if the kids are particularly energetic. One thing I’ve learned is setting clear boundaries. It’s okay to say no or delegate the responsibility to parents or others who are more willing. I’ve also found that involving the kids in simple activities like board games or drawing can help make the task more manageable and even enjoyable. Sometimes, however, I wish there was a way to communicate openly about how tiring it is to be the designated watcher, so others understand it’s not always an easy or fun job. Overall, balancing family expectations and personal limits is key. If you find yourself in this spot, know that you’re not alone, and it’s important to take care of your own energy and mental well-being while still making the gathering pleasant for everyone.
