🗺️ Hakuba itinerary: where to go & what to do
Itinerary: 🚘
Nagano -> Evergreen Outdoor Centre for rafting -> Kappa Tei for lunch -> Iwatake Resort for mountain views -> Back to Nagano
1. Rafting🚣♀️: 47,500yen per raft. Super gentle and chill, can get to see the gorgeous views of Hakuba valley. Water was still quite chilly in August. There was quite a lot of bugs so FYI. I'd recommend the morning slot so you don't get any sunburns!
2. Kappa Tei🍚: Our rafting instructor recommended us this place. It's a really traditional resturant that sells local food. Has english menu. Highly recommend either the sweet fish set or the trout don.
3. Iwatake Harbour Mountain Resort⛰️: Get the gondola ticket and you'll head up to the top of the mountain for great views. Some activities to do there:
- Yoo Hoo Swing (Buy when you reach the peak as the earlier timings do get sold out)
- Mountain Karting
- Chill and have lunch here
There is a free ski lift that you can take to the middle of the mountain where there is another cafe and a giant swing there.
Good to stay here until evening for the sunset views!
If you’re planning a day trip to Hakuba, incorporating the Evergreen Outdoor Centre is a fantastic choice for experiencing the natural beauty of the Hakuba Valley while enjoying a gentle rafting adventure. The 47,500 yen private rafting tour provides scenic views along calm waters, making it suitable for all ages and skill levels. Since the water can be chilly even in summer and bugs are common, wearing appropriate water shoes and insect repellent is highly advisable—plus, opting for a morning excursion helps avoid sunburn and the heat of the day. After a refreshing morning on the water, heading to Kappa Tei restaurant is a must for a taste of authentic Nagano cuisine. With an English menu and recommendations like the sweet fish set and trout don, visitors can savor traditional flavors unique to the region. The cozy ambiance and local ingredients make it a favorite stop highly endorsed by locals and tour instructors alike. Continuing the itinerary, the Iwatake Harbour Mountain Resort offers diverse experiences atop the mountain reachable by gondola. Among the activities, the Yoo-Hoo Swing stands out—this thrilling giant swing provides breathtaking panoramic views, especially popular at sunset, so purchasing tickets early at the peak is essential. For more relaxed fun, mountain karting and café stops add variety to the day. Additionally, the free ski lift gives easy access to a middle-mountain café and giant swing, perfect for a light break or photo opportunities. Staying into the evening is recommended to witness spectacular sunsets sweeping over the Japanese Alps, creating memorable moments against the mountain backdrop. Visitors often appreciate the blend of adventure, culture, and serene nature packed into this compact itinerary. Overall, this Hakuba itinerary mixes outdoor activities, delicious local food, and stunning landscapes to provide a well-rounded travel experience. Whether you favor tranquil rafting, cultural meals, or exhilarating mountain views, Hakuba has something to offer every traveler exploring Nagano’s scenic wonders.
