Another Personal Suit, Frogz

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to finally introduce you to my new personal fursuit, Frogz! When I first shared a sneak peek, some of you wondered if Frogz was a frog fursuit, and I can totally see why certain design elements might give that impression. But surprise! Frogz is actually my adorable new opossum character! I poured so much love into bringing Frogz the Opossum to life, focusing on those big, expressive eyes and the playful spirit of an opossum, which I find incredibly charming. It's truly amazing how a character can take on a life of its own during the design process, and I love how Frogz turned out. The subtle greens and blues in the fur, combined with the slightly wide, friendly gaze, might indeed evoke thoughts of a frog for some, which is an interesting observation about how visual cues work! Creating a fursuit is such a journey, and every character has its own unique story. For Frogz, I wanted to capture a blend of cute and curious. It's funny how different styles can be interpreted. Speaking of styles, I've seen a lot of interest in kemono fursuits lately, and it's a fascinating style! Kemono fursuits often feature more anime-inspired, often chibi-like proportions, with large heads, detailed eyes, and a very plush, soft appearance. They originate from Japan and have a distinct aesthetic that many artists adore. While Frogz isn't strictly a kemono fursuit in the traditional sense, I definitely drew inspiration from that bright, friendly aesthetic to make Frogz as huggable and approachable looking as possible. It’s all about creating that magical connection with the character and bringing joy to those who see them! I experimented with various ear shapes and cheek fluff to get that perfect balance of opossum features with a touch of stylized cuteness. The furry fandom itself is such a vibrant and creative community. Sometimes people ask, 'when were furries invented?' and it's a great question! While anthropomorphic characters have existed in folklore and art for centuries – think ancient myths, fables, and even classic cartoons – the modern furry fandom really started taking shape in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It grew out of science fiction and fantasy conventions, particularly during discussions about animal characters in media like comics, animation, and even early role-playing games. People started connecting over their shared love for these characters, leading to the creation of fanzines, art, online communities, and eventually, the amazing fursuits we see today. It's a wonderful evolution of expressive art and community building, and I'm so proud to be a part of it. The sense of belonging and creativity within this community is truly special. For Frogz, I used a mix of high-quality faux fur fabrics to get that perfect texture, combining different pile lengths for depth. The eyes are custom-painted resin, giving them that essential spark of personality, and the lightweight head base makes it comfortable to wear for longer periods, which is essential for conventions or meetups. I’m thinking about what adventures Frogz the Opossum will embark on next and can't wait to share more photos and stories with you all! What kind of poses or interactions would you love to see with Frogz? Let me know in the comments!
