My two greedy pet cats🐱

... Read moreIt's a daily adventure living with my two furry food fanatics! Just like the question 'Whose kitten is so greedy?' from one of my photos, I often wonder if there's a bottomless pit in my cats' bellies. It's truly hilarious how obsessed they get when it's mealtime, or even just snack time! I constantly find myself laughing at their antics; sometimes it feels like they're starring in their own 'greedy cat meme' compilation. I've learned a lot about why cats can be so greedy, and it's not always just about being spoiled! Sometimes, it's their natural instinct to hunt and scavenge, especially if they were strays or come from a lineage of active hunters. Other times, it can be a sign of boredom, where food becomes the most exciting part of their day. Of course, it's always good to rule out any underlying health issues with a vet visit if their hunger seems excessive or sudden. For my two, I think it's a mix of their playful personalities and a bit of 'FOMO' – fear of missing out on a delicious bite! Managing their insatiable appetites has become an interesting challenge. I've tried various tricks to slow down their eating and make mealtime more engaging. One of the best discoveries I've made are slow feeder bowls and puzzle feeders designed specifically for cats. You know how some people look for an 'omega paw dog hog slow dog feeder'? Well, there are fantastic cat versions too! These not only prevent them from eating too quickly (which can cause upset tummies) but also provide mental stimulation. Instead of just gulping down food, they have to 'work' for it, using their paws or noses to get kibble out of nooks and crannies. It turns mealtime into a fun game, reducing boredom and making them feel more satisfied. I started with a simple maze-like bowl, and it was incredible to see how much longer it took them to finish their meal. Then, I upgraded to more complex puzzle feeders where they have to bat balls or slide covers to get treats. It's like a little scavenger hunt every day! I also make sure to stick to a consistent feeding schedule and measure out their portions carefully. It's easy to overfeed when you have those adorable, pleading eyes staring up at you, but I remind myself it's for their long-term health. Sometimes, I even hide small portions of their dry food around the house, turning the whole place into a 'hunting ground.' This mimics their natural foraging behavior and keeps them active. If your kitten is so greedy, don't despair! There are many ways to make mealtime healthier and more fun for both of you. Beyond slow feeders, consider interactive toys that dispense treats, or even just spreading their dry food on a wide, flat surface to prevent fast eating. Watching them strategize to get their food is truly entertaining, and it helps them burn off energy too. It's all part of the joy (and sometimes, the hilarious struggle) of being a pet parent to a couple of lovable, albeit very greedy, cats!
