summer has been going soooo fast already! I’ve spent most of my day packing for my new job at Yale! I can’t believe I’ll be working there for the summer, the best part? I get to live on campus! I’m so grateful for the opportunity, here’s (some) of what I’m packing, I literally leave in eight hours I should be sleeping…
I’m nervous! and excited so I probably won’t sleep. maybe my next post should be a dorm tour…
... Read moreOkay, so since I'm literally buzzing with excitement (and a little bit of nerves!) about heading to Yale for the summer, I wanted to share a more detailed peek into my packing strategy, especially since I'll be living right on campus! This isn't just any summer trip; it's an on-campus job experience at an amazing university, so I've really tried to think about what I'll actually need to make my temporary home comfortable and functional.
First up, Toiletries & Self-Care – because feeling fresh is key, especially during a busy summer in New Haven! I'm definitely bringing my favorite soaps and fragrances to make my dorm room feel a bit more like home. A good deodorant is a non-negotiable for summer heat, and of course, plenty of sunscreen is a must for walking around campus and enjoying any outdoor moments. I've also got my essential face care routine packed, plus a travel-sized first aid kit for any little emergencies – you never know when you might need a bandage, pain reliever, or allergy meds!
Next, Tech & Entertainment for those downtime moments and staying productive. My macbook is absolutely essential for work tasks and staying connected, but for unwinding, I'm bringing my Switch Lite and my trusty DSI (hello nostalgia trip!). I'll also be making sure I have good headphones for YouTube videos, music, or just some quiet time. And since I'm also a content creator, my portable microphone is definitely coming with me – gotta capture those Yale summer vibes and document the experience! Don't forget chargers for everything!
For Wardrobe, I'm thinking light layers and comfort. Even though it's summer, evenings can get surprisingly cool, and AC indoors can be quite chilly. So, a mix of shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, a light hoodie or cardigan, and maybe one or two slightly dressier outfits for any campus events or dinners. Comfortable walking shoes are paramount for exploring the beautiful Yale campus and getting to and from my job. I'm also tossing in a pair of flip-flops for communal showers, if applicable.
And what about Essentials for Dorm Life? Since I'll be living on campus, I'm bringing a compact laundry bag, a small clip-on fan (a lifesaver in non-AC dorms!), and some basic non-perishable snacks for late-night cravings. A reusable water bottle is a must-have for staying hydrated throughout the day. For my personal grooming, my mini's elieve fav brush set and a basic makeup kit are perfect for quick touch-ups without taking up too much space. I'm really trying to be mindful of fitting everything into my luggage, so multi-purpose items are my best friends!
Finally, Study & Personal Growth. My main goal for this summer is reading, NOT scrolling, so my stack of SUMMER books is already picked out and ready to go. I'm also bringing a planner to organize my work schedule and personal goals, along with some notebooks for journaling, taking notes, or jotting down new ideas. This is an incredible opportunity, and I want to make the most of it, both professionally and personally.
This list feels pretty comprehensive for a summer experience at Yale, balancing work, relaxation, and self-care. I hope it helps anyone else planning a similar on-campus adventure! Wish me luck!
That sounds so fun !What is the job ?
