HOW MUCH WAS YOUR FIRST PAYCHECK???

I worked a total of 7 hours for my first paycheck at Plato’s Closet. I remember getting that check and feeling UNSTOPPABLE.

Whole time I was making $8.60/hr which was BELOW minimum wage (which was illegal at the time but I didn’t know)

But that’ll be a story for another post;)

I was happy at the time and spent the money on my friends 🤞🏽 we had a great time and ate a bunch of tacos

How much did you make with your first check? Do you even remember?

I’m surprised I even found this pic of me with my first check lol

Until next time:)~

... Read moreMany of us can recall the excitement of receiving our first paycheck. I worked a modest 7 hours at Plato's Closet and earned just $60, living a moment I thought would last forever. It’s fascinating how our initial jobs not only introduce us to the world of earnings but also shape our financial habits. Did you know that for many teenagers, their first job serves as a launching pad into adulthood? It's an important milestone that brings with it a sense of responsibility and independence. You may spend that initial paycheck on something fun with friends or save it for future goals. Engaging with your first paycheck often ignites conversations about labor laws, underpayment issues, and the importance of fair wages. When I learned I was earning below the minimum wage, it opened my eyes to the realities various workers face. Moreover, these experiences highlight ongoing labor discussions, both on social platforms and in real-life conversations, about what it means to value your work. The memories associated with that first paycheck are what many remember fondly, regardless of the amount. So, how does your first paycheck story compare? Did you too feel like the luckiest person in the world as you spent it with friends, enjoying tacos after a long day? Share your tales and let’s reminisce about that exhilarating chapter of life!

My first paycheck was $15 & that was back in 1995 when minimum wage was $4.25/hr. I was only working on weekends and only got paid under the table because I wasn't 16 yet. I would buy junk food with it, or try and save it so I could get my aunt a gift for Christmas, or for her birthday. Plus, I would have to hide it from my mom and her used to be boyfriend back then.
