As I’m away from college, and back in my hometown, I’m constantly looking for things to do so I won’t be bored if I’m not working. 🫠

So far, I’ve been pretty good at keeping busy!!

I’m almost never not doing something at this rate, which feels really nice, because I’m surrounded by people who I love to spend time with doing things we love to do!!

Though I complain about it quite often, home isn’t half as bad as it used to feel. 🫣

But I've found that actively seeking out 'recreational pursuits' makes my time off so much more fulfilling. If you're like me and want to make the most of your break, here are some expanded ideas on how to fill those days with joy and relaxation! Dive into the World of Books (Beyond 'Cinder'!): While finishing up a captivating novel like 'Cinder' is always a win, don't stop there! Holiday breaks are perfect for exploring different genres you usually don't have time for. Maybe visit your local library, which often has cozy reading nooks, or even join an online book club to connect with fellow readers. Audiobooks are fantastic for walks or while you're doing chores – it's a great way to escape into a story without being glued to a screen. Reconnect & Recharge with Hometown Friends: Chilling with hometown friends is truly one of the best parts of a break. But why not elevate those hangouts? Instead of just catching up over coffee, organize a themed potluck, host a board game night, or even plan a mini-adventure exploring hidden gems in your town you never noticed before. A friend of mine recently organized a 'volunteer day' where we helped out at a local animal shelter, and it was incredibly rewarding and a unique way to spend time together. An early Christmas party, as some of us have enjoyed, is also a fantastic way to celebrate with your OG crew! Stay Active & Energized (Beyond the Gym): Yes, hitting the gym is a great habit, but holiday breaks offer a chance to diversify your fitness routine. I've been loving outdoor activities like long walks in local parks or even trying out a new hiking trail. If the weather isn't cooperating, consider an online dance class, a yoga tutorial, or even just some mindful stretching. It’s all about finding what feels good for your body and mind, embracing that 'lazy weekend' vibe when you need to, but also moving when you feel the urge. Unleash Your Inner Artist with Creative Pursuits: When I tried 'light painting,' it was such a fun and unexpected creative outlet! If you're looking for something similar, there are so many artistic hobbies to explore. Try your hand at DIY holiday gifts – think personalized ornaments or handmade cards. Journaling can be a wonderfully reflective practice during a break, or perhaps pick up a camera and try some photography around your hometown. You could even learn a few chords on a ukulele or try a new craft kit; the possibilities are endless for creative 'recreational pursuits'. Embrace the Festive Spirit & Local Charm: Holiday breaks are naturally filled with festive cheer. Beyond just attending an early Christmas party, explore local holiday markets, try baking some seasonal treats, or even get into the spirit with some home decorating. Watching classic holiday movies with a mug of hot cocoa is a perfect way to embrace that 'lazy weekend' feeling. You might also find local community events or concerts that add a special touch to your break. Remember, it's all about making memories and enjoying this unique time away from your usual routine. Happy holidays!
