I get paid for including a hashtag
I run a TikTok account thats slowly growing and maintaining a good amount of views. Someone recently messaged me asking me to include a hashtag, which I'm assuming has to do with their campaign, and will pay me $285 to do that.
I didn't think too much before saying yes, and he actually sent me the money. Now, I'm confused. I thought I would fall for a scam after I've actually processed the information, and I did make a video with their hashtag.
What do I do with the money?? Do I spend it? Or save it just in case they ask for the money back if I don't agree to continue coorporate?
If you have been paid to include a hashtag in your TikTok video, it’s important to understand how sponsored content typically works. Many social media marketers use hashtag campaigns to promote a brand or product, often paying influencers to raise visibility. Receiving $285 upfront is not uncommon, especially if your account has moderate engagement. First, ensure the payment is legitimate by checking the sender’s profile or campaign details carefully. Sometimes, scammers may send money and then attempt to reclaim it citing unauthorized transactions. To protect yourself, keep a record of all communication and agreements. In general, once you create and post content with the hashtag, the payment is considered compensation for your service. However, if no formal contract was signed, and they request the money back for any reason, legal obligations may be unclear. Saving the money initially is wise until you confirm ongoing collaboration or receive a formal agreement. Hashtags you include can significantly affect your content’s reach. Popular tags like #socialmediatips or #TikTok can attract niche audiences and boost video views. Using trending hashtags thoughtfully helps maintain organic growth while meeting paid campaign requirements. To navigate future brand deals safely, consider the following: - Request clear terms before accepting payments - Use invoices or contracts specifying scope and payment details - Avoid sharing personal banking info; use secure payment methods - Monitor your content’s performance to evaluate campaign success This experience highlights the growing trend of micro-influencers monetizing their social channels. Stay cautious but open to opportunities as the influencer marketing space expands, ensuring your collaborations are both profitable and secure.
