on my way to the airport ✈️
Hey everyone! As a flight attendant, the airport is practically my second home, but even for me, every trip starts with a mix of excitement and a little bit of emotion. That moment of saying goodbye to loved ones never really gets easier, does it? Whether it's a quick hug or a tearful farewell, those emotional airport goodbyes are a real part of this life. I always try to remember why I'm doing this – to explore, to connect, and to make every flight special for someone else. It's about remembering to 'KEEP GOING,' even when your heart feels a little heavy. But beyond the emotions, there's always the practical side: what do I do when I get to the airport? This is where my routine truly kicks in, and I've picked up a few tips that might help you too, whether you're flying for leisure or work! First things first, arrival time is key. For domestic flights, I aim for at least 2 hours before departure, and for international, it's a solid 3 hours. This gives you breathing room for unexpected queues at check-in or security. Don't rush it; stress is the last thing you need before a flight. Next, check-in and baggage drop. If you haven't checked in online, head straight to your airline's counter. Even if you have, you'll still need to drop off any checked luggage. Always double-check your bag tags! I've seen too many instances where bags go astray because of incorrect tags. Pro tip: take a photo of your luggage and its contents, just in case. Then comes security. This can often be the longest part of the airport process. Have your boarding pass and ID ready. Wear easy-to-remove shoes, and make sure your liquids are in a clear, quart-sized bag. Laptops and other large electronics usually need to come out of your bag. Try to be organized before you even get to the conveyor belt; it speeds things up for everyone. And remember, be patient and polite with the TSA agents – they're doing an important job. Once you're through security, it's time to find your gate. Check the departure boards regularly, as gates can sometimes change. If you have some time before boarding, this is when I grab a coffee, catch up on emails, or just people-watch. It's a great opportunity to relax before the hustle and bustle of the flight. Make sure you don't wander too far from your gate, especially if boarding has started. Finally, boarding. Listen for announcements carefully. Airlines often board in groups, so know when it's your turn. Have your boarding pass and ID ready again. Once you're on board, quickly find your seat, stow your carry-on efficiently, and settle in. Remember, flying can be a wonderful experience, and a smooth start at the airport makes all the difference. So, next time you're heading to the airport, take a deep breath, follow these steps, and 'KEEP GOING' towards your next adventure!
