CosmoWhirl Orb Imperfect Pieces
Not every tiny universe makes the cut ✨
These are some of the almost-perfect CosmoWhirl Orbs that stayed behind in our studio. Tiny details kept them from reaching our final shipping standard, even though many of them still look incredible under light.
That’s the difficult part of handmade work. Sometimes the pieces that are hardest to let go are the ones that came so close.
Each orb is made by hand in flame using borosilicate glass, so no two inner worlds ever settle the same way.

Creating something truly unique by hand is a journey filled with passion, precision, and sometimes, a little heartbreak. Many of you have seen my finished CosmoWhirl Orbs, the tiny universes that find their way to new homes. But what you often don't see are the pieces that, despite their undeniable beauty, don’t quite make the cut. These are what I affectionately call my 'rejected finished pieces.' It's not that they aren't beautiful; in fact, many of them are absolutely stunning when held up to the light. The challenge lies in the 'small details that didn't pass' my rigorous quality standards. When working with borosilicate glass and flame, every flicker, every breath, every tiny movement impacts the final creation. Sometimes, an internal swirl might not settle exactly as envisioned, or a microscopic air bubble might form in a prominent spot. Other times, the overall spherical symmetry might be ever so slightly off, or the colors within the orb might not blend with the perfect gradient I strive for. These aren't structural flaws, but rather minor aesthetic imperfections that, to me, mean they aren't perfectly aligned with the vision of what a 'perfect' CosmoWhirl Orb should be. The process of creating each CosmoWhirl Orb is incredibly intricate. I sculpt these miniature worlds in a flame, carefully manipulating molten glass to capture swirling nebulae and distant stars. Because each piece is handcrafted, 'no two inner worlds ever settle the same way,' which is part of their charm. This inherent uniqueness also means that achieving absolute perfection is a constant pursuit. It's a delicate balance between artistic freedom and precise execution. As a maker, it's incredibly difficult to set aside a piece that I've poured hours into, especially when it's so close to being flawless. There's an emotional attachment to every creation. These 'almost-perfect' orbs represent dedication, learning, and the continuous refinement of my craft. They teach me something new about the material and the process with every attempt. So, why won't I ship them? It comes down to integrity and the promise of quality I want to uphold. When you receive a CosmoWhirl Orb from my studio, I want you to know that it's been meticulously inspected and meets the highest standards I can achieve. It's about ensuring that 'only the one that truly makes the cut leaves our hands.' These imperfect pieces serve as a beautiful reminder of the handmade journey, the challenges overcome, and the relentless pursuit of artistic excellence. They are a testament to the fact that even in imperfection, there is immense beauty and a story waiting to be told. Perhaps one day, I'll find a special way to share these unique, perfectly imperfect pieces with the world, but for now, they remain my studio secrets, inspiring future creations.
