POV: You just found your next Japanese food obsession in Singapore.

If you’re a Japanese food girlie/boy 🍣🥩 this one needs to be on your list.

We checked out Robata Akari, where Japanese Chef Sudo-san brings authentic Japanese flavours with traditional Genshiyaki-style grilling 🔥🐟

Basically… premium ingredients + fire + Japanese technique = 🤌🏻

✨ What we tried:

🍣 5-Kind Sashimi — Flounder, Horse Mackerel, Salmon, Striped Jack & Tuna

🥩 Uni & Raw A4 Wagyu Roll

🥘 A4 Wagyu Shabu-Shabu in Dashi

🍆 Grilled Japanese Red Eggplant

🐟 Fish of the Day — Nodoguro / Kinki

🍚 A4 Wagyu Claypot Rice

🍠 Smoked Japanese Sweet Potato + Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream

🔥 THE NODOGURO THOUGH.

Rich, fatty, super tender and grilled with that smoky fire-kissed aroma. 🐟✨

And that A4 Wagyu Claypot Rice?

Instant comfort food. 🍚🥩

Honestly, if your love language is Japanese food + charcoal + premium ingredients, save this spot. 📌🇯🇵

🔥 Authentic Japanese Robatayaki × Genshiyaki

Would you pick Nodoguro 🐟 or A4 Wagyu 🥩?

... Read moreHaving visited numerous Japanese restaurants in Singapore, I can confidently say that Robata Akari stands out thanks to its commitment to authenticity and the unique Genshiyaki grilling technique. This traditional fire-grilling style not only enhances the flavor of the fish and meat but also creates a distinctive smoky aroma that elevates the dining experience. What truly impressed me was the freshness of the sashimi platter — the fish is flown in directly from Japan, ensuring unmatched quality. The Nodoguro, or blackthroat seaperch, became my personal favorite. Its rich, fatty flesh grilled to perfection offered a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that’s hard to find elsewhere. Paired with the delicate umami of the dashi broth in the A4 Wagyu Shabu-Shabu, it made for an unforgettable meal. Also, the A4 Wagyu Claypot Rice deserves a special mention; it’s like comfort food at its finest with tender wagyu infused with the fragrant rice and corn. Ending the meal with the smoked Japanese sweet potato alongside Madagascar vanilla ice cream was a satisfying way to balance the smoky and sweet flavors. If you love Japanese cuisine that blends premium ingredients with time-honored grilling techniques, this place is worth marking on your food map. Whether you're torn between the fish or the wagyu, each dish tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship and passion for authentic taste. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience this in Singapore's vibrant food scene!

Found a pretty decent Japanese omu rice stall at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre 🍳🇯🇵 From cutlets to wagyu patties, there's plenty to choose from. Omelette was perfectly done and prices are affordable too! Worth checking out if you're in the area 👌 #FoodieSG #OmuRice #HongLim
