💄UNPOP OPINION 💅

Unpopular opinion: makeup is meant for making yourself feel confident, not attracting a partner.

As I’ve grown up and have seen the podcast bros talk about women wearing makeup just for the sole purpose of getting attention from men, it has made me really think about why people SHOULD wear makeup.

People should wear makeup because it makes them feel good about THEMSELVES, not for validation from strangers and/or potential partners. Your life partner shouldn’t care how you look, they should love you unconditionally.

What if you developed a a sensitivity to makeup on your skin? It was making you break out or even laying in bed next to them in night you’re not wearing a full beat…what do they think of you then? That you’re ugly?

That’s why it shouldn’t be about that. It lowers your self esteem and confidence in yourself. Heads up high queens, kings, and royalty alike! Wear all the makeup you want, for yourself! 🥰💋

... Read moreIn today's society, makeup often carries different meanings for different people. While some may view it purely as a way to enhance physical appearance for external approval, many are starting to emphasize its empowering role in fostering personal confidence. This shift aligns closely with the unpopular opinion that makeup should fundamentally be about feeling good in your own skin, rather than attracting partners or strangers. Wearing makeup for yourself means reclaiming control over how you present to the world, free from societal pressures or expectations. It’s about self-care and self-expression, encouraging you to experiment, highlight your favorite features, or simply feel more vibrant on days when you need a boost. Such intention helps build a positive relationship with your appearance, boosting self-esteem without reliance on external validation. It’s also important to consider skin health when using makeup. Some people may develop sensitivities or breakouts from certain products, which can negatively impact confidence if wearing makeup feels more like a burden than a choice. Choosing to embrace your natural look during these moments affirms the idea that your worth isn’t tied to cosmetic enhancements. A supportive partner or community should celebrate you regardless of whether you wear makeup. Moreover, embracing a mindset where makeup is for yourself challenges harmful stereotypes often perpetuated in media or casual conversations, such as the assumption that women use makeup solely to attract men. Breaking free from such narratives empowers all individuals—including queens, kings, and royalty alike—to carry themselves with heads held high and pride in their authentic selves. The hashtag #girlpov highlights women's personal perspectives on beauty standards and challenges mainstream expectations. It invites honest dialogue around confidence, self-care, and authenticity. Engaging with communities focusing on self-love fosters an environment where makeup is celebrated as a form of art and self-expression, not a requirement for acceptance. Ultimately, makeup can be a powerful tool that enhances self-confidence when used on your terms. By prioritizing your feelings and preferences over outside opinions, you cultivate a healthier, unconditional love for yourself—the foundation for truly fulfilling relationships and personal happiness.

I feel that many of the lessons taught to women are influenced by a male-centered perspective. You are completely right that makeup, etc should be for ourselves and not a man. I personally had to relearn to dress for myself and not others
