Shrek and friends🫏👹

It's so much fun looking back at last year's Halloween! My friends and I had an absolute blast putting together our Shrek & friends costumes. We really wanted something recognizable but also with a touch of niche flair. That's why I opted for Husk from Hazbin Hotel – he's such a cool character and a great conversation starter for those in the know! Seeing my friends as Shrek, Princess Fiona, and Donkey really completed the vibe. It felt like we stepped right out of the movie and into the party, and honestly, the reactions we got were priceless. Plus, everyone loves a good Shrek reference! If you're brainstorming Shrek party costume ideas, I highly recommend going for a group theme! The beauty of the Shrek universe is that there are so many fantastic characters to choose from, perfect for a whole squad. For Shrek himself, green face paint, an ogre-ear headband, and a comfy tunic are essentials. Princess Fiona's look is iconic with her green dress and braided red hair – you can easily find affordable versions or even DIY with some fabric. Donkey is surprisingly simple too; a grey jumpsuit, a tail, and those big ears are key! We found that thrift stores were amazing for finding base clothing items that we could then customize, saving us a lot of money without compromising on the look. Choosing a niche Shrek character can really elevate your group costume from great to unforgettable. Beyond the main trio, think about characters like the Gingerbread Man (a brown jumpsuit and some icing details!), Puss in Boots (a hat, cape, and tiny sword), or even Lord Farquaad (a short cape and a bowl-cut wig works wonders!). These characters are instantly recognizable to fans but still offer a unique twist compared to just the main characters. For my Husk costume, it was all about the details: the red vest, the feathery wings, and the card-themed accessories. It was a bit more involved, but totally worth it for the specific character recognition among fellow Hazbin Hotel fans. Planning these details really made the costumes pop, and getting the POISONEDLOOK (referencing the OCR overlay) just right for character makeup is always a fun challenge! When my friends and I were planning, we put a lot of thought into how comfortable the costumes would be for a whole night of partying. There’s nothing worse than an itchy wig or shoes that pinch! We also tried to coordinate our makeup and accessories to make sure everyone looked cohesive, even with different characters. It’s not just about the individual costume; it’s about the whole group dynamic. This year, my partner and I are super excited to be Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn – another iconic duo but with a different vibe. It's all about picking characters you love, having fun bringing them to life, and creating those memorable Halloween moments!
