💜AMA: Domestic Violence Advocate🙋‍♀️

My current career is as a Domestic Violence Advocate. I have been doing my job for 3 years now. Every day seems to get tougher under the current political climate.

It almost seems as if no one wants to fight for women right now…it’s a scary time to be doing my job. We are barely being funded because our state doesn’t have a budget. I’m lucky I got to keep my job. Non-profit work can be incredibly unpredictable.

Ask me anything about my current job, I would love to answer your questions down below!

... Read moreWorking as a Domestic Violence Advocate is often an emotionally taxing yet deeply rewarding job. This role involves providing crucial support, shelter, and counseling to survivors of domestic violence, helping them navigate the legal system and regain their independence. Advocates frequently face challenges such as limited funding, especially in regions like Pennsylvania where state budgets can be unstable, impacting non-profit programs and staff retention. Political climates heavily influence how resources are allocated to support services, making it even more important for communities to raise awareness and advocate for increased funding. Advocates like the one featured here often contend with the societal perception that fighting for women's rights is less of a priority, which adds to the difficulty of their work. Despite these hurdles, the impact they have on survivors’ lives is profound, facilitating healing and empowerment. If you’re considering a career in domestic violence advocacy or want to support this vital work, connecting with local organizations, volunteering, or educating yourself about the signs of abuse can make a difference. Online Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with advocates provide unique insights into the day-to-day realities, including how policies affect service delivery and how individuals can contribute to change. This AMA emphasizes openness and community engagement—encouraging questions about challenges advocates face, ways to support survivors, and the critical importance of sustained funding. Understanding the socio-political context alongside personal stories enriches our knowledge and underscores the urgent need for advocacy in times when support for women's rights feels tenuous. Your participation helps keep these issues visible and promotes a safer future for all affected by domestic violence.

This is such an awesome and necessary job and work! So many people are in abusive situations and don’t realize it’s abusive. It really is a shame. Thank you for all that you do. 💗

Thank you for showing up in such a vital and emotionally demanding role. The unpredictability of nonprofit work paired with the weight of advocacy must feel like carrying fire through a storm. Your honesty about the political climate and funding struggles is powerful—and necessary. I hope you feel seen, and I hope your work continues to ripple in ways that protect and empower.
