2026 financial goal🤑

My goal for finances in 2026 is to have a better handle on my savings.

Usually I have $25 going into an external savings account every paycheck. I try to put back more whenever I can. I want to bump that up to $50 per paycheck this year.

I also want to start putting back more for retirement!

... Read moreIt's so exciting to set a 2026 financial goal! Beyond just increasing contributions, I've found that having a solid plan makes all the difference. If you're also looking to boost your savings and retirement, here are a few things I've been learning and implementing myself. First, let's talk about building that robust savings plan for 2026. I used to just save 'whatever I could,' but now I'm trying to be more intentional. A great starting point is creating a detailed budget. Knowing exactly where your money goes can be a real eye-opener! I've found that using a simple spreadsheet or a budgeting app helps me track my income and expenses. Once you see your spending habits, it's easier to identify areas where you can trim back a little to free up more cash for your savings goals. Even small changes, like cutting down on daily coffee or cooking at home more often, can add up significantly over a year. Another crucial part of my savings strategy is setting up an emergency fund. This was a game-changer for me. Having 3-6 months' worth of essential living expenses saved up gives me so much peace of mind. It means if an unexpected car repair or medical bill comes up, I don't have to dip into my long-term savings or, worse, go into debt. I treat my emergency fund as sacred – it's there for true emergencies only! When it comes to retirement, starting early is key. Even if it's just a small amount, contributing consistently can make a huge difference thanks to compound interest. I'm looking into different retirement accounts like a Roth IRA, which allows my money to grow tax-free. It's a bit overwhelming at first, but there are so many resources online to help understand the basics. And speaking of resources, if you're like me and want to learn more about personal finance, diving into some best finance books can be incredibly helpful. Here are a couple that have really resonated with me and could help you too as you work towards your 2026 financial goal: 'The Total Money Makeover' by Dave Ramsey: This book is fantastic for getting out of debt and building a solid financial foundation. While some of his methods are aggressive, the principles of budgeting, saving, and living debt-free are invaluable. It really helped me reframe my relationship with money. 'I Will Teach You To Be Rich' by Ramit Sethi: Don't let the title fool you; this book offers practical, automated systems for managing money, investing, and optimizing your finances. It's great for beginners who want to set up an effective system without spending hours on budgeting every week. 'The Psychology of Money' by Morgan Housel: This one is less about specific strategies and more about understanding our behavior around money. It explains why we make the financial decisions we do and how to develop a better mindset for long-term wealth building. It's a fascinating read! Remember, consistency is more important than the amount when you're just starting. Every dollar you save or invest is a step closer to your 2026 financial goal and beyond. Let's keep supporting each other on this journey to financial freedom!
