When I picked up The Reappearance of Rachel Price, I was a little skeptical. YA isn’t usually my go to, but I wanted a break from romantasy. A little palate cleanser before diving into my next big series. And honestly? I’m really glad I did.
This book was so good. Twisty, suspenseful, and way better than I expected.
The story follows Bel Price, who was only two years old when her mom ( Rachel Price ) mysteriously vanished. It became one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the country. Where did Rachel go, and who was responsible? Years later, Bel and her family are filming a documentary about the disappearance… when Rachel suddenly reappears.
From the start, Bel is convinced something isn’t right. She believes Rachel is lying and makes it her mission to uncover the truth. But the deeper she digs, the more secrets come to light. And what she uncovers is far bigger and darker than she ever expected.
There were so many twists and turns I genuinely did not see coming, and I flew through this book. It kept me guessing the entire time.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced YA mystery that doesn’t feel childish and actually delivers on the suspense, I definitely recommend this one.

The blend of family drama and suspenseful mystery makes it stand out from typical YA novels. The author skillfully crafts a narrative full of unexpected twists that genuinely surprised me, keeping me hooked until the last page.
What I appreciated most was how the book balances YA themes with a mature tone, avoiding the pitfalls of being overly simplistic or childish. The investigation through the documentary filmmaking angle adds a contemporary and realistic touch, making the story relatable and immersive. The protagonist's determination to uncover the truth, despite the risks, added emotional depth and complexity to the storyline.
Moreover, Holly Jackson, a New York Times bestselling author known for "A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder," pens this thriller with compelling prose and a knack for building tension. Fans of Jackson's previous work will find familiar strengths in storytelling and character development, while new readers will appreciate the fresh take on mystery and suspense in a YA setting.
