📚 Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
I finally started the Throne of Glass series! 🎉 I’m currently caught up on both ACOTAR and Crescent City, so it was definitely time to dive into Sarah J. Maas’ first fantasy world. I won’t lie… starting another massive series is a little overwhelming. 😂
After finishing Crescent City, I was honestly worried. There was so much information thrown at you that it was hard to tell what was important and what was just world-building. Thankfully, Throne of Glass felt much more simple and straightforward (although I have a feeling that won’t last for long 😅)
Celaena Sardothien is such a baddie. She’s Adarlan’s most notorious assassin, yet her true identity remains a mystery to most. After surviving the brutal salt mines of Endovier (something few people ever do) she’s given an unexpected chance at freedom. Prince Dorian pulls her from the mines to compete against other criminals and warriors to become the King’s Champion, while Captain of the Guard, Chaol Westfall, is tasked with training and watching over her. As the competition unfolds, contestants begin turning up dead, and a terrifying, mysterious force lurking within the castle starts leaving bodies behind.
I really enjoyed the mystery mixed with the fantasy, and Celaena’s confidence, wit, and determination made her so much fun to read. While this wasn’t a five-star read for me, it was a solid introduction to the world and definitely left me wanting to know what happens next.
Now I have to ask… Team Dorian or Team Chaol? 🤭 I’m honestly torn because I can see either of them being a great match for Celaena at this point.
Overall, I gave Throne of Glass 3 out of 5 stars. I’m excited to continue the series and can’t wait to see how everything eventually connects back to the larger Maasverse and the references so many readers talk about!
