Kalliopi is making & finding history as i type! she is excavating historical Alexandria Egypt searching for the lost tomb of Alexander the Great — and her work is paying off! after 14 years her team are finally finding sculptures, artifacts, and many ancient buildings from ~300 BCE ; ~2,300 years ago!! 🕊️
Alexander the Great is one of my favorite historical persons and definitely one of the most influential people in human history! it’s every historians dream to find anything related to him 🔆

⛏️ Mary Anning 1799 - 1847 caused many controversies with her discoveries but the biggest— the idea of extinction. extinction would imply ‘god’s creation’ was imperfect. she was a baptized christian herself and supposedly learned to read & right from within a church- yet christian’s and misogynistic male scientists / paleontologists flocked to diminish her especially sense she was a self educated woman in the scientific field. male scientists- who frequently bought the fossils Mary would uncover, clean, prepare and identify- often did not credit her discoveries in their scientific papers on the finds. even the geological society of london refused to admit her - in fact, they didn't admit women until 1904.
Mary died from breast cancer in 1847. she was only 47 years old, and still in financial strain despite a lifetime of extraordinary scientific discoveries.
“she says the world has used her ill … these men of learning have sucked her brains, and made a great deal of publishing works, of which she furnished the contents, while she derived none of the advantages,” wrote Anna Pinney
— she is truly the mother of paleontology. 👑
