Deception, Lies, & Betrayal part 2
Elliot’s knuckles whitened around the grip of the pistol hidden under his jacket. Natasha stood in front of him, voice sharp as broken glass.
“You don’t scare me,” she spat. “You’re just like the rest of them—big talk, no bite.”
He tilted his head, eyes cold. “I warned you. Derick’s in a hospital bed because of you. I’m not gonna end up there.”
She smirked. “Then leave. Before you make the biggest mistake of your life.”
But Elliot wasn’t leaving. Not yet. His heart pounded so loud it drowned out everything else. In a single movement, he pulled the gun free and aimed at her. Her smirk faltered.
“You think you’re gonna shoot me? You ain’t built like that,” she whispered, but her hands trembled.
He squeezed the trigger. The sound cracked through the room — deafening, final. Natasha’s body jerked, a burst of red blooming across her shirt as she crumpled to the floor. Elliot stood frozen for half a beat, then looked down at himself. Blood had splattered across his chest and hands.
He stumbled back, muttering under his breath, then bolted out the door. By the time he reached his car, the gun was back in his waistband, but the blood was still sticky on his shirt. He drove with his windows down, trying to steady his breathing.
An hour later, he met up with Theodore and Trey at a spot on the east side. They were posted up by the cars, laughing and smoking like it was a normal night.
“You good?” Theodore asked, squinting at Elliot’s shirt.
“Yeah,” Elliot lied, pulling his jacket tighter. “What’s up?”
“Party tonight at Melo’s,” Trey said. “Big crowd, music, the whole thing. You sliding?”
Elliot stared past them for a second, mind still flashing back to Natasha hitting the floor. Then he nodded. “Yeah. I’ll slide.”
The three of them fell into conversation about the party — who’d be there, what they’d wear — but Elliot barely heard any of it. He could still smell the gunpowder on his hands.
The party at Melo’s was packed wall to wall — bass shaking the floor, lights flashing like camera shutters. But even over the music, you could feel it: a ripple of unease moving through the crowd.
Two detectives had just walked in, plainclothes but obvious — scanning faces, showing badges, speaking in low, serious tones. The taller one addressed a group near the bar.
“We’re looking for anyone who may have information about the murder of Natasha Patterson.”
A hush spread out from the bar like a drop in water. Phones came out. Whispers traveled faster than the beat. Murder. Natasha Patterson.
By the time the detectives moved toward their side of the room, Elliot was already sliding through the crowd toward the exit. He mumbled something about needing air, but Trey caught it: the look on his face wasn’t air. It was escape.
Outside, the cool night felt like a slap. Elliot lit a cigarette with trembling hands, trying to keep his breathing steady. Neon from the club sign reflected off the dark smear on his shirt.
Inside, Theodore and Trey exchanged a glance.
“Why’d he run outside like that?” Trey asked.
“Because something’s off,” Theodore said, already moving toward the door. “Let’s go.”
They found Elliot leaning against the brick wall, blowing smoke like it could erase the weight sitting on his chest. Theodore’s eyes dropped immediately to the stain on Elliot’s shirt — dark, dried, and unmistakable under the streetlight.
He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “Yo… don’t tell me you did some crazy shit, bro?”
Elliot flicked ash to the ground, eyes not meeting theirs. “Mind your business.”
Trey folded his arms, his own eyes darting from the shirt to Elliot’s face. “We’re your boys. If something went down, we need to know.”
Elliot didn’t answer. The thump of the party inside felt a mile away now. The sound of distant sirens carried down the street.
Theodore’s voice dropped even further, equal parts fear and anger. “That’s not paint. That’s not ketchup. That’s blood, Elliot. Talk to us.”
Elliot crushed the cigarette under his shoe, still staring at the ground. “Just… keep your mouths shut,” he muttered.
At that moment, the club door swung open. One of the detectives stepped out, scanning the sidewalk. He hadn’t seen them yet, but he was close.
Trey hissed under his breath, “Bro, if you’re hiding something, it’s about to blow up right here.”

OMG, after reading part 2, I can't stop thinking about Elliot's situation! 🤯 The way this story dives deep into deception, lies, and betrayal is just chilling. You know, when you read something like this, it makes you wonder about the human psyche and what pushes someone to such an extreme. Elliot's quick decision to pull that trigger, then the immediate panic and attempt to cover it up—it's a whirlwind of emotions that the author captured so perfectly. I found myself wondering, what's going through Elliot's mind beyond just the fear of getting caught? Is there regret? A twisted sense of self-preservation? The pressure must be immense, carrying a secret like that. It’s not just about hiding a crime; it’s about hiding a part of himself from his friends, from the world. That kind of internal conflict, where lies unfold not just to others but within your own conscience, is truly fascinating and terrifying. And then there are Theodore and Trey. Their reactions were so realistic. That moment Theodore saw the bloodstain and his voice dropped – you could feel the shift in their friendship. It's a classic example of how betrayal and deception don't just affect the direct victim, but ripple through an entire circle. How do you trust someone again after witnessing something so dark, or even suspecting it? Their loyalty is being put to the ultimate test, and I'm really curious to see if they'll protect Elliot or if their own moral compass will kick in. The arrival of the detectives at the party was such a brilliant twist! It immediately raises the stakes. You can literally feel the net tightening around Elliot. This really highlights the idea that secrets, especially dark ones, rarely stay buried. Eventually, lies unfold, no matter how meticulously you try to weave your web of deceit. The neon lights reflecting off the bloodstain? Chef's kiss for imagery! That just screams guilt and the inescapable truth. This whole scenario makes me think about the psychological weight of secrets. When you're living with such a massive deception, every interaction becomes a performance. Every casual question feels like an interrogation. It must be exhausting! And the betrayal of trust, not just towards Natasha, but potentially towards his friends who are now unknowingly, or knowingly, involved. This story isn't just a thriller; it's a deep dive into the corrosive nature of lies. The sepia-toned imagery on the cover art perfectly sets the mood for a story where everything feels a little murky and morally ambiguous, doesn't it? It's like looking into a past event that's still haunting the present. That initial confrontation between Elliot and Natasha – “You’re just like the rest of them—big talk, no bite” – really sets the stage for the explosive act that follows. It speaks volumes about the history between them, suggesting a deeper narrative of past betrayals and unresolved conflicts that led to this deadly breaking point. It's not just a random act; it feels like the culmination of a long, painful history of deception, lies, and betrayal. I think this story also makes you consider the fine line between defending yourself and committing a heinous act. Elliot felt threatened, but was killing Natasha his only option? Or was it a moment of uncontrolled rage fueled by past grievances, a moment where all the accumulated lies unfold in a violent burst? These are the kinds of moral dilemmas that make this narrative so compelling. The way his heart pounded, drowning out everything else – it perfectly conveys the intensity of that moment of no return. And now, he's trapped in a web of his own making, a web that's getting tighter with every passing minute, especially with the siren in the distance. What a fantastic read! I'm already impatient for part 3 to see how Elliot navigates this impossible situation. What do you all think Theodore and Trey will do next? And how long until the truth fully comes out?
