My definition of a summer night….. part 1

My kind of summer night was quieter—built for speaking on life.

While others struggled to even articulate what they wanted their future to look like, I already knew. I knew the shape of it, the feeling of it. I wanted more out of life, and summer nights gave me space to admit that out loud. They slowed everything down, softened the noise, made room for reflection and intention. They were for reminiscing, yes—but also for finally moving with purpose instead of just dreaming.

I used to imagine rooftop conversations the most. The kind where the city hums beneath you and the sky feels close enough to touch. Where words matter. Where pauses aren’t awkward, just thoughtful. I wanted connection that lived in sentences, not silence.

I never really had car talks—the late-night drives, the deep confessions over a parked engine and fogged-up windows. What I had instead were sex sessions. Moments built only to satisfy the needs of soulless souls, empty exchanges that ended without meaning. Bodies touching, but nothing actually meeting.

There was no real connecting. No meshing of thoughts. No trading of ideas or dreams with another person who wanted to see me. And on those summer nights, when the air was warm and forgiving, that absence felt louder than anything else.

So I sat with my thoughts. I spoke to the night itself. And in that stillness, I promised myself that one day my summers would be different—filled with conversations that lingered, connections that fed me, and a life that finally felt like it was moving toward something real.
