ADDICTED…. Part 2

Epiphany leaned back on the edge of the crowded kitchen counter, watching London pace the floor like a caged animal. Her jaw was tight, chest rising fast, fists balled so hard her nails dug into her palms.

“He got me fucked up!” London screamed again, damn near shaking the whole house. “He took the Tesla! The Tesla, E! And now I’m in here sleeping on my mama’s couch with people everywhere. Kids crying, aunties being nosy, cousins in and out—girl, I can’t stay here!”

Epiphany stayed calm, but her eyes got sharp.

“Let me see what I can do.”

“Yes, you do just that,” London snapped, dragging both hands down her face. “Cause if I gotta keep waking up to my mama’s man making coffee in his boxers, I’m going to jail before court even starts.”

Epiphany almost laughed, but she knew London was dead serious.

“Sit down,” she said.

London stopped pacing. “For what?”

“Because Antoine thinks he won already.”

That made London freeze.

Epiphany folded her arms. “He filed first, moved money, took the car, probably got his paperwork lined up at that law firm all neat and pretty. He wants you emotional. Broke. Unstable. He wants to paint you like the bitter wife that can’t handle losing.”

London’s nostrils flared. “I am bitter.”

“I know. But you can’t look bitter.”

That shut her up.

Epiphany reached for her phone, already moving.

“Antoine’s an accountant at a law firm, right?”

“Yeah.”

“He thinks because he knows the numbers, he controls the story. Men like that always slip in the same place.”

London narrowed her eyes. “Where?”

“In their ego.”

Epiphany started texting somebody fast.

“What are you doing?” London asked.

“Calling in favors.”

Within an hour, Epiphany had a plan.

She had an old friend named Marcel who did forensic bookkeeping for messy divorces and business disputes. Quiet man. Expensive. Ruthless. The type who could smell hidden money through a brick wall.

By that evening, Epiphany was sitting in London’s room—if you could even call the tiny crowded guest room that—while London sat cross-legged on the bed, listening hard.

“You said Antoine always bragged about being smarter than everybody, right?”

London nodded. “All the time.”

“And he handled all the bills?”

“Yes.”

“And every time you asked questions, what’d he say?”

London mocked his deep voice with attitude. “‘Baby, don’t worry your pretty little head about it. I got it.’”

Epiphany smirked.

“Perfect.”

“Perfect? How is that perfect?”

“Because men who say that usually hiding something.”

London sat up straighter. “You think he got money somewhere?”

“I think a man who moved this fast didn’t just wake up and decide to leave. He planned this.”

London stared.

And that was the first time all day her anger made room for something colder.

“You think he been planning this for a while.”

Epiphany nodded once. “Probably before he even filed.”

The next few days, London played her role.

She stopped blowing up Antoine’s phone.

Stopped leaving angry voicemails.

Stopped posting cryptic statuses.

She went quiet.

Too quiet.

And Antoine noticed.

He texted the third night.

Antoine: You done causing scenes?

London showed Epiphany, who smiled like a devil.

“Good. He’s fishing.”

“What I say?”

Epiphany took the phone.

London: I’m not fighting you anymore. You clearly wanted all this. Just send me what I need to sign.

London blinked. “That’s it?”

“That’s it.”

“You sure?”

“Trust me.”

Antoine responded almost instantly.

Antoine: That’s more like it. I knew you’d calm down eventually.

Epiphany grinned wider.

“There it is.”

“What?”

“That cocky ass confidence. He thinks you folded.”

A week later, Marcel had enough to make London’s stomach turn.

They sat in his office while he slid papers across the desk.

“I can’t say this is final until I subpoena everything,” Marcel said, adjusting his glasses. “But from what I can already see, your husband has likely been moving funds through shell accounts and shifting money under expense allocations tied to one of the law firm’s smaller operating entities.”

London stared blankly.

Epiphany translated.

“He’s hiding money.”

Marcel nodded. “Potentially a lot of it.”

“How much?” London whispered.

Marcel tapped the page.

“Enough that if proven in divorce court, the judge will not be pleased.”

London’s heart pounded.

“And that’s not all,” Marcel added. “The Tesla transfer? It happened before the filing, but not in a clean way. It appears he changed title interest while marital funds were still paying the note.”

Epiphany slowly smiled.

“Oh, Antoine… you stupid.”

London looked between them. “What does that mean?”

“It means,” Epiphany said, leaning in, “Mr. Accountant may have committed financial misconduct while trying to outplay you.”

London’s mouth fell open.

“No way.”

“Yes way.”

“And if his law firm finds out he used their structures or access to shuffle money?” Marcel added carefully. “That becomes a much bigger problem than just a divorce.”

Silence.

Then London let out the most wicked little laugh.

The kind that started in her chest and grew teeth.

“So what now?”

Epiphany sat back like a queen on her throne.

“Now,” she said smoothly, “we stop trying to beat Antoine where he expects.”

London’s eyes glittered.

“And hit him where he don’t.”

A few days later, Antoine strutted into court in a navy suit, expensive watch shining, acting like he already owned the judge too.

He looked over at London—and paused.

Because she didn’t look broken.

Didn’t look desperate.

Didn’t look like a woman sleeping in a crowded house with nowhere to go.

She looked polished.

Still.

Deadly.

And sitting right beside her…

Was Marcel.

Antoine’s smirk faltered.

For the first time, Epiphany—watching from the back bench in a cream blazer with her legs crossed—saw panic flash across his face.

His lawyer leaned over. Whispered something.

Antoine’s jaw tightened.

Good.

The hearing started simple enough.

Then London’s attorney requested discovery expansion.

Then Marcel’s preliminary findings were entered.

Then the judge started asking questions.

About unreported transfers.

About timing.

About marital asset concealment.

About the vehicle.

About irregular accounting movement tied to affiliated accounts.

Antoine’s confidence started cracking right there in open court.

By the time the judge ordered a deeper financial review and warned both parties about full disclosure obligations…

Antoine looked sick.

Outside the courtroom, he stormed toward London.

“You think you did something?” he hissed.

London looked him dead in his eyes.

“No,” she said, voice sweet as poison. “Epiphany did.”

Antoine looked over at Epiphany standing by the elevator.

She smiled.

Small.

Cold.

Unbothered.

And for the first time since he served London papers, Antoine realized something terrifying—

He had prepared for a wife with hurt feelings.

Not a woman with a friend who knew how to bury men quietly.

... Read moreNavigating a complicated divorce can feel like stepping into an emotional battlefield, and the story of London and Epiphany in this article perfectly captures that intensity. From personal experience, I can relate to how critical it is to stay composed and strategic when emotions run high—especially when dealing with a partner who appears to have carefully plotted behind the scenes. In this tale, the revelation of financial misconduct and hidden assets is a game changer. It’s common in contentious divorces for one party to try concealing funds or moving assets in underhanded ways, hoping to gain an upper hand. The methodical approach to uncovering these secrets by involving a forensic accountant like Marcel is a smart move. Such professionals specialize in sniffing out financial irregularities even when perpetrators use complex means like shell companies or disguised expense allocations. I’ve seen firsthand how quiet strength and not showing bitterness or desperation can turn legal disputes. Playing into the opponent's expectation of emotional breakdown often weakens your standing. Instead, maintaining calm and appearing composed can shift perceived power. Moreover, the importance of documentation and detailed discovery in court can’t be overstated. Filing for expanded discovery and presenting preliminary forensic findings can pressure the other party, who might then falter publicly or even risk professional consequences—as Antoine realizes when his firm's reputation is potentially at stake. This story also highlights a vital lesson: emotional support and strategic allies, like Epiphany, are invaluable during such crises. Having a trusted friend who can help call in favors and manage behind-the-scenes moves can be crucial to turning what seems like a losing position into a winning one. For anyone facing similar struggles, it’s important to remember that knowledge, preparation, and a clear head are key. Legal battles often go beyond the courtroom; they’re psychological games meant to wear you down. Standing firm, utilizing expert help, and controlling the narrative can yield surprising results—exactly as London and Epiphany demonstrated with their resolute, smart approach.
